Got up late today and had a lazy breakfast before walking through an olive grove in Montale, the small village where we are staying, to the 11th Century chapel, Pieve di San Siro and the 18thCentury church attached to it. Unfortunately both establishments were closed so we headed down to Levanto to hire some bikes. Luckily we arrived just before the bike shop was due to close for lunch…long lunches are certainly the order of the day in the south of France and Italy! We set off on an easy bike ride through disused railway tunnels that have been turned into an excellent, flat pedestrian & cycle route, with occasional views of the ocean and coastal scenery. The first set of tunnels led to the seaside town of Bonassola, a few kilometres west of Levanto. We
