Ahhhh - so this morning starts like " Amazing Race" - we need to get back to Termini station to find the spot where we can pick up the Roma passes that Billy and Laurie got for us.. pretty tricky - but we found it!! And we are off - first stop will be the Colosseum and the Palantine Gardens.. our hotel was not to far from the Colosseum so we walked Via Nazionale to the Capital area and then across to the Colosseum. Walking toward the colosseum, it is massive, impressive and pretty remarkable to see in person. You almost feel like you can transfer back in time to the emperors and gladiators marching thru these gates and entering the forum. I'm having a "spazzy" moment - like with the solar system.. I'm finding it hard to believe - very hard to wrap my head around all this history and who documented it.. yeah - I'm looking at it but I need more proof- lol 😊 And now can we say THANK GOD for the Roma Pass - we bypassed hundreds of people in waiting in line - now that was amazing. I was getting the anxiety to wait in
that line it was tremendous. So awesome, awesome awesome! We were in and about and out in record time - check! We are now off to the gardens - which were also really incredible - I'm not kidding when I say unbelievable!!
From there - we decide to keep going - we walked over to the Trevi Fountain, from there to Piazza Navonna. At the Piazza, they were having a huge Christmas Market- a great mix of locals and tourists and was so cool to see. We shared the biggest donut we ever seen - I think Ciambello and wandered around and shopped a bit..We also met a bull terrier named "Hero" who they let us take a few pics ( uploaded to this days blog😊
Nope - we are not tired yet, we are going to the Pantheon, and Piazza del Popolo before ending todays "tour" - we found both but missed the Spanish steps today - don't know how but we did..
Anyway - we are heading out for an anticipated great dinner tonight at Da Vincenzo - highly recommended from family who has eaten here. And we will add - it was outstanding. The
food and service - unmatched to anywhere we have eaten so far in Italy. This place is all about seafood so we had sauteed mussels and clams. I had a taglietelle with lobster and cherry tomatoes ( YUMMY) and Alberto had monkfish. After we finished dinner, the owner came back and was talking to us for about 30 minutes - what a genuinely nice guy. A real pleasure to speak with and learn a little about their perspectives of what is going on in this crazy world today - economic and otherwise. To that - he sent us over a bottle of limoncello - which must have been homemade - I usually can pass on it but it was soooo good! What a great but LONG LONG day. We left the hotel at 11am and returned at 11pm.
Exhausted is not even the word! Phew!
