spicy!
notice that one of those signs says pizza[erotica] so, culture shock set in yesterday in a big way. i was trying to get pictures taken to give to the police
. i put in four euros, it says i put in 3.50 and wouldn't give me my change. it took the picture, i looked horrible in them b/c i was pissed off about losing a euro , and then i realized i couldn't take anymore right then bc i was short a euro, which meant i had to do it all over again. on the way to this photo booth, i had passed a clothing store that had something i wanted to buy in it. i went in, and it was absolutely nothing like any store in america. the person working there was old, which means she didn't speak english, so i knew it was no use in trying. with a lot of these old italians, if you try to mime things out they just get angry and grumble/yell. so i just left. then there was the photo debacle. then i went to a grocery store. one of my roommates asked that i bring back a a river statue
one of the rivers on the four rivers statue. its pretty famous. i think cole has picture of it. bottle of water. well, the only naturale water i could find was in great big packages of six. in america, you do NOT rip indiviual items from packaging, so i just gave up and left without water. my roommates told me when i got back that you're suppose to rip it from the packing though. and going out to eat anywhere besides my favorite restaurant where my italian waiter friends work is hell. i have no idea what the etiquette is, what you're suppose to eat with silverware or what is eaten with your hands, whether you're suppose to pour fanta into a glass or drink it from a can, how you ask for the check, where you go to get seated or whether you just seat yourself. it stresses me out like nobody's business. and just this morning i had to sit outside the school for a while waiting for someone else to get here
b/c i don't understand how the non-american looking keys work. i don't know why i thought this trip would be a good idea. i mean, i didn't even know how to say hello when i arrived. now my vocab has expanded to hello, goodbye, i'm sorry, thank you, please, cheese, beer, wine, and thats about it. and you can probably imagine how well i get around the city with those few words and phrases. i sure am glad italian classes start today. on a happier note, never before have a i realized how good i am at speaking spanish .
there are lots of other little things that have been adding up to this. its just so weird to be constantly confused. also, i've always been told that europeans hate americans, so i feel like all the natives are uber-angry with me when im inept, and that makes my anxiety level considerably greater. bleh.
classes started yesterday. for at least half of my classes, we're just going to walk around and talk about all the old stuff we stumble upon . this would be fun if i didn't have
blisters the size of montana on the bottom of my toes that won't heal.
sorry to be such a downer. this is much harder than i imagined. will post pictures to try and perk things up.
facts
1] london is so dirty that everyone's snot turns black there. have you ever had black boogers. i sure have.
2] rome does not have a modern skyline b/c no one is allowed to build higher than st. peters dome
there were more but i forget.
oh, and i'm sorry i begrudged ryan his loft rights. i understand better now how hard it must be for him to be the only boy. i mean, i sure would love my own room, but i'm not gonna hold my breath on that one.
i saw horse meat at the market yesterday.
thanks a lot for all the comments guys. they really do cheer me up a lot. i really only have acquaintances over here, and getting support from back home makes me a little less depressed.

Smile
Don't let all the little frustrations get to you. Think of me, and how I'm such a dork, and smile. See, I told you you should have packed me in your suitcase. BTW, I think I know some of those girls. Gotta go to 7:30 (yes am) class. Hugs, Kim
