sunrise at the colloseum
I got up at 6:30 this morning to see the sunrise over the Colosseum but it wasn't very good, I did see 2 different couples getting wedding photos while there wasn't many people around.

came back to the room and woke Esther for breakfast which came to our room at 8 and then we headed off for a walk around Rome

we went back to the trevi fountain and it wasnt as busy as last night, and then went to the Piaza Collona a large column depicting war victories and then to the Pantheon where there was an amazing cellist playing a cello so we bought his disc before looking in the Pantheon which appears to be a church but was once a Roman Temple.

then to the Piazza Navona which has fountains similar to the trevi fountain but circular in the middle of the Piazza.

we crossed the tevere river or as we call it the tiber river it looks like it is flowing fast but it is dirty green in colour. from the bridge where we crossed you can see the Vatican, we walked along the river past market stalls and past the castel S.

Angelo to the vatican but we didnt go into the bassilica of s. Pietro we stopped at the Piazza s. Pietro a circular set of collumns in front of the vatican. the line to get in here was twice that of the colluseum and we wanted to get back to our room in time for siesta.

we walked back a different way past the Piazza Augusto but it was coved in scaffold for refurbishment, we walked on to Via D. Corso past the trevi fountain street Via d. Trevi past the Vitoriano and back to our room for lunch and siesta at 1pm been walking for 4hrs. (couldn't have done it without Ruth's map, even though a policeman told us it was a useless tourists map we got home, Thanks)

siester over we went for a walk the other side of the Colosseum looked in a few shops saw some more churches (Basilicas) and then looked for a place to eat only to end up in the same place we went to last night, they were gad to see us and we had lasagna and bolognase having given up on Italian pizzas for now.

we even had

Trevi fountain
a live band come by with a double bass a saxophone and a piano accordion which was great but they did expect a tip which we obliged as did others to top it off we had the best tiramisu I have had and they gave us a lemonchelo gratis at the end.

that's it for Rome we are off to Florence tomorrow morning by train.
