A last round the village day...and pack up.

Up in the hills behind Castellammare before the 79AD Vesuvius eruption there stood 6 very large Roman Villas. I think I mentioned earlier they are in the process of excavating.
Their purpose was purely for leisure and the views. Quite large multi story buildings with ornate mosaic floors and fresco walls. Villa Arianna (which we went through) containing a large Atrium where water was collected, a large dining room, a large cooking area, a spa and many bedrooms. The rooms at the front with the magnificant views over the Gulf of Napoli had enormous window spaces.
Excavations started earlier in 1749 for their Relics. However in doing so, quite a bit of damage was done. In 1957 excavations recommenced. These Villas were quite substantial in size and portrayed a wealthy side to Roman life.
