Day 07
We planed today for some shopping, and checking out some sights that might be of interest.
One of the first items was a championship golf course, one ranked among the top 10 in the world. Connemara Golf Course. We were going to shop in their Pro Shop for some things for Mike and Gail, and get to see the golf course that is aired in some of the major championship games.
We put in the location, and set off after breakfast to begin our journey. We went on some very narrow roads, some with lines down the middle, and some without lines down the middle, because they were narrow, and bridges on them were single file bridges, where only one car could pass while the other side waited.
Lots of pretty country side, and quaint homes and villages. When we got to the golf course, we didn’t see very many fairways, greens, or tee boxes. And the fairways we saw were not mowed. We saw a green with a flag in it, but it did not look like something you would expect to see on TV. But, hey, things look different on TV.
We
We are at low tide.
If you look at the homes across the bay, you can see they are all on the ground. The tide is out. One boat is anchored in the middle of the bay, but I didn't get that picture, because I just thought it was abandoned. go to the club house, and noticed there was a bar, bathrooms, no Pro Shop and very little parking space. We used the facilities, and got back in the car, and went back to google maps. We were located at the Connemara Isles Golf Club. Well, disappointment set in, and we decided to go to Clifden for lunch, and continue our day.
In Clifden, we saw lots of signs for Connemara Gold Club and after we ate lunch, we walked the street to see which stores were open on Bank Holiday. Monday Bank Holiday is a holiday in May, but we could not determine what the holiday was for. Some stores were closed, but those that were tourist focused were open. Pubs open at noon, however. Walsh’s Bakery is the happening place in Clifden. They were a bakery, but had a wide and delicious lunch fare.
After lunch at the delightful little bakery, we looked at the directions that were posted on the highway leaving town for Connemara Golf Club. They were pointed in a different direction than we had come from, so we decided perhaps there is another Connemara Golf Club. There is indeed, and while the

They had a very nice Pro Shop, very nice greens and people actually playing golf, learning to putt on the starter green and truly a top 10 world class golf course from what I could see. So, if you want to play golf in Ireland at Connemara, make sure you book the Connemara Golf Club, and not the Connemara Isles Golf Club.
On the way back from the golf course, we wanted to stop at a castle that was inhabited by Gail’s Great-Great Grandfather’s family. It was an interesting visit, and a national monument for Ireland, given by the family. It is being spiffed up, some of it is still standing, and that is what is documented, and on display.
On the way back to our apartment, we passed through a little town, and decided to stop and grab dinner. The first choice was on the Galway Bay, but didn’t open for another 30 minutes. Google said it was open at 5, but the door said 6. Plan B is now open. Up the street we came down to get to option A, we passed Donnelly’s. It looked open, so we

Back to the apartment, and getting ready for tomorrow. We check out of Galway in the morning and continue our trip around the island.
