This weekend we took a trip to Dublin as an API group. That is, at 10am on Saturday al of us piled onto the bus with Finn, Kevin, and the three munchkins and headed to Dublin for the night. Now, before this trip I was feeling weary. It was a rough week for me in terms of my anxiety, a bit of homesickness, and just everything. But this trip changed that. I got the pleasure of sitting in front of Roisin and Aisling for the long three hour bus ride. They are five and six years old respectively and have more energy than anyone I have ever seen before. I laughed with them, I played games with them, and I wrote stories with them. Time spent with these two little girls made me completely forget about any issues I was having myself. I was lost in their innocence and I felt renewed. When we got to Dublin Roisin decided she was going to stick with me and that was great. I missed my camp kids and being with her made me realize how much I really do love kids. She we walked hand in and hand through Dublin and she would
We Sit in Style
Roisin and I talking about our day always sit with me. Before we got on the hop on hop off bus we counted how many blue and yellow buses we could find.Bre, Erin, and I got off the bus at St. Patrick's Cathedral. I would've taken my little minion if I could. It was beautiful. I've been in it before, but it was still as gorgeous as the first time I went in.After we went there we got on the bus again and just rode around Dublin. As we were on the top of the bus it was nice just to look around and take in the city. The three of us went to get alcohol, and we climbed out the window on the 5th floor and sat outside. It was gorgeous, probably against the rules, but relaxing. After we ordered pizza and went down to the bar attached to the hotel. I went to bed early and slept like a rock in a very comfy bed. The next morning Bre and I went to breakfast and let me tell you it was way better than the hotel in London. I even got a tiny jam jar. Finn and Kevin and the kids were eating breakfast too so
Learning to Pour
Here I am learning the proper way to pour a Guinness from draft when we were done we went over to meet them. They decided to walk us to the bus stop and of course Roisin and I walked together. We went in a church and Finn had the father bless us and he gave the girls rosary beads to give as gifts to us. It was so beautiful. They took us to the stop and Bre and I went on the bus to go to the Guinness Factory. Since it was a Sunday morning it wasn't packed, however I'm still convinced we didn't do something right because we didn't wait in line at all. it was so nice to walk around and take in the process of creating one of the most famous beers in the world. One of the stops on the tour was learning how to taste Guinness. We all got baby pint glasses and learned the proper way to taste a beer. I really wanted to pour my own, and luckily since it was Sunday and it wasn't crowded we only waited in line for about seven minutes before we went to the Guinness Academy. There, we learned to pour a pint of our very own Guinness and we got
certificates at the end to signify our 'graduation' from the academy. After, we took our pints to the Gravity Bar, which overlooks the entirety of Dublin. The view was gorgeous and even the bar itself was a great environment. I would just like to note that not only did we get carded once at the factory, but we got carded when we went in to the taste room, and again when we got our free pint. Bre and I decided we were having a young-looking day. After that we left the factory, a little tipsier than we entered it, and we walked down to Grafton Street to do a bit of shopping. We ended up running into Erin and Shannon and together we went back to the hotel and got coffee and just relaxed until 4pm when we had to meet up with everyone. At four o'clock the rest of us all met in the lobby and my little monkey climbed into my lap and we talked about her day. Then we all got our stuff and loaded onto the bus to start the ride back to Galway. Much the same as the ride to Dublin, I entertained Aisling and Roisin
with games and chatting since their coloring books were packed in the back. Roisin, being the crazy girl she is,decided she didn't want to sit in her seat anymore and that she was too hot, so she sat with me, shirt off, and she spelled words and looked at pictures on my phone. At one point Matt was asleep in the seat in front of us, and she thought it would be absolutely hilarious to wake him up by yelling, "hello Matt!" And then hiding in my lap. She was uncontrollably laughing so of course I was too. It was a very crazy ride indeed, from Owen dying of thirst to Aisling and Roisin failing at the quiet game. I had more fun on that bus though than I could've thought possible.
