Geo: 53.1168, -9.15375Today was a relaxing day. we went to the Aillwee Cave, which didn't open until 10am. , so a lazy morning. The cave was pretty cool. They also had a nice shop, of oourse, where we picked up some local cheese and smoked salmon for lunch.they also had some pretty hikes and a fun Bird of prey show, where they showed owls, hawks and falcons. We really enjoyed it.We planned to meet a guide at 3pm for a hike in the Burren, but we got lost and were thirty minutes late and she was gone. we hiked on our own and then went shopping. I found my Irish sweater, so did Dot. We got lost because Tom left us to go home, and Dot, our backup navigator decided to stay home and take nap, ... read more

With the weather improving, and the easier route, our spirits improved tremendously. The route was a beautiful 14 mile cycle along the Clare coastline with some spectacular views of the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. I will keep this entry short and let the photos speak for themselves. We made it to Ballyvaughn without mishap at 5:15, and found our next stop which was the Hyland Burrens Hotel. This was more of a hotel, than a B&B, and it was big, comfortable with several lounges and wireless that actually works. After a good dinner and drink, we turned in for the night ready for the last leg of our ... read more

Geo: 53.1203, -9.16682Ballyvaughan is lovely little place with some of the best scenery in the world, esp. in stormy weather. We rented 2 'cottages' with a thatch roof & a half door and all mod-cons! Lovely houses actually but the cottage badge is a bit twee. There were 13 of us from Dublin & 2 people we knew from there so the craic was great and the local pubs very nice. C and I headed off to 'Dysert O'Dea' near Corofin on new years eve afternoon in the blustery wind which was fun, it's a castle reonvated in the 1980's by John O'Day (who I am guessing is American) and is now home to Clare Archaelogy Centre but was originally built by the O'Dea clan in 1480 and also at the property is the Saint Tola's ... read more
