Oh, but my cells are churning. Why, only yesterday I made the very tough decision to sell almost all my CD's (bar a few with special memories attached, and those personally autographed. Ok, the one personally autographed CD I have), for a shockingly low price. Today the plan is to weed through the ceaseless flood of books currently inhabiting my bedroom, hallway and storage areas, and maybe try to unload a few of those as well. It's amazing how much stuff one can gather over the course of 22 years. But, hopefully all this will bring me one step closer to Destination: Europe. For the benefit of you, dearest reader, I shall now outline the plan (if it can be called a plan at this early stage). Mostly I'm the one doing the planning, and my ... read more

So so so sorry for the length of this blog, I recommed reading it in stages. I didn't anticipate it being so long! My post christmas trip to Iceland with Clare and Chris for New Year has been something I've really looked foward to on my trip. I didn't really know what to expect from it, apart from extreme cold. As it turned out, I didn't even get that! But I should start at the beginning... after a busy Christmas, this holiday got off to a stressful start. We were due to catch the Gatwick Express from Victoria station in central London at 6.00 to be at Gatwick by 6.30 for an 8.30 flight. However, at 5.50 we were distressed to read the electronic sign in Victoria station saying that the Gatwick Express was replaced by ... read more

BWI-Reykjavik: flight time 5 hours, 15 minutes Months back, the plan was to fly into Iceland and have a 9-hour layover. Scott felt it would give us the opportunity to leave the airport and see something of Reykjavik before we continued our trek east. This plan was changed after a frank discussion was had that highlighted Kat's preference for not making a long and complicated travel itinerary any longer or complicated than it needed to be. We had rearranged things so as to have a 2-hour layover. Of course, this was before we had a 5-hour delay coming out of BWI. Our entire stay in Iceland involved getting off our plane, commenting on the lovely glass-walled jetways, walking across the hallway, and entering another glass-walled jetway. While we had been flying, it had been announced that ... read more

Stick those needles in my arm please!! Yeah, had my first vaccinations for the trip today. In total 4 shots. Have to go back again in January, for the second Hepatis shot and perhaps Yellow fever (though that's probably not neccesary). My arms were sore all day and got some brusing. But otherwise l'm fine. We also got some cholera medecin stuff which we need to drink before we leave. Probably be grose. We're still wondering about which Malaria drugs to take. There are a few to chose from but all of them have pros and cons. I think people underestimate life in an almost disease free country. Just a flew now and then....nothing to get worked up about. ... read more

And here we are, the final entry! (of travel) It's our last day in Iceland. We have a free morning to do as we choose. I have a stream of traffic coming through our hotel room as there is free wireless connection in the room..........everyone is checking e-mails: Leona, Gail, Elviera, Ben, Tim and Lynn, Anne, Tina, Jarrott, ........My Internet Cafe is open! Time to pack the suitcases. I didn't do much shopping because my intention on this trip was to experience as many of the adventures as I could, rather than pick up trinkets and dust collector-type items to bring home. And to try and choose gifts for people, when you visit so many different countries, is enough to drive you insane. So, instead, I chose the camel ride, the time at the Snow Park ... read more

Hello everyone! This is a most appropriate time for me to say a HUGE thank you to my very best friend, Katie!!!!! Without her generous gift of the digital camera, none of you would be enjoying this pictorial journey with us around the world. Thank you, Katie! (and I even figured out how to use the zoom lens finally!). Thank you, thank you! A picture is worth a million words. So, where did I leave off?????? Oh yeah, we were visiting the Geysers! What a sight. We all enjoyed that spot. We had lunch at a little restaurant in a hotel at the site, and then wandered around the gift shop for a while. Then, it was time to get back on the bus and head to the Falls. It was a short stop, but a ... read more

Hi everyone, (Note: I am editing this; it is Thursday morning already, just before breakfast. I should have posted this yesterday already......but time flies......A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MOM, HELEN FORTIN!!!!!) Wow! I really felt like I was "coming home" as we flew over Iceland and into Reykjavik!!! What scenery! Snow, and chilly air.........yah hoo! This is my kind of living! We arrived yesterday afternoon, after having left Prague in the morning. We were sad to leave as Prague has so much to offer. I highly recommend it to people as a travel destination (have I told you that already? well, it's worth repeating!). We were happy to see the familiar plane and the crew, smiling and welcoming as usual! This is a bit of a sad flight also in that the crew leaves us ... read more

Who could say no to the offer of a free weekend in Iceland when you're skint? While I was still without work I was watching every penny very closely, but Howard had an offer I couldn't refuse. A weekend in Iceland, all booked and paid for with a friend that couldn't make it, all I was up for was a name change fee and food when I got there! It was a Friday flight and a perfect day when I flew in and I was able to see across the whole island, snow everywhere as they had recently had a dump. Iceland isnt that close, and the airport isnt that close to the city either so all in all I was travelling for a solid day. I met Howard at the 5* apartment they had rented, ... read more
