people tell you your whole life that it's unique and beautiful but you don't really get a grip on just how much until you see it with your own eyes, and pictures will never do it justice...it is just so incredible...small villages built on the top of a mountain and on the edges of cliffs...the main road is on the eastern edge and to get to the western side, where the sun sets, you need to walk through small cobbled streets over the top of the mountain and then down the other side...it makes for interesting leg pain but is very well worth it
way back when, the only way to get from the port to the town was to walk or ride a donkey...nowadays they have a proper road for cars (for the new port), and a cable car...so far we've taken all options (except walking because walking up a mountain should never be considered a viable option)...that's right, I RODE A DONKEY!! i scream-laughed the whole way up (as did my 2 friends) and tourists were stopping and taking pictures of us...LOTS of people take donkeys up the mountain so i assume they thought we were 'special' girls
on our last holiday before the 'procedures'...oh well, i've had people think of me far worse than that
other than being one of THE most beautiful things i have experienced in my life, santorini is quite boring overall...i'm glad i didn't come here in peak summer season, walking just 20m in these tiny streets amongst twenty thousand of your closest friends would drive me over the edge (and the edges are steep!), but people or no, there is nothing to do here...drink, eat, look at the view, sleep
we were told we HAVE to go to Oia (the northern tip of the island) to see the sunset from there, but it was exactly the same as at Fira (where we are staying), just 15km down the road...we were told we HAVE to go see the sunset from the winery, but it was exactly the same as Fira just 10km to the south...we took a cruise on a 'sail boat' (the inverted commas are for the fact that, though the boat had a few masts and at least 1 sail, it cruised around using its motor the entire time)...the boat took us to the volcano across the way (yeah ok, thanks, but boring),
and to the hot springs (yeah ok, thanks, but mud, yuk), then to the other islet across the water for lunch (yeah ok, thanks, but the food was awful)...
it turns out that sitting in the one spot, over pink cocktails, not stressing your little brain out trying to think of great things to do actually IS the best thing to do on santorini...once we gave up trying, we had smiles on our faces again
we were due to go back to the mainland tomorrow to go to a couple of ancient sites 200km out of athens, but we (smartly, i think) decided that it may be best we stay off the main highways and roads - so we are staying on santorini for 2 more days
we booked ourselves into a getfucked suite with a private pool on the other side of the island for 2 nights and we'll head there tomorrow to DO NOTHING and be happy

You need to film videos in that suit. Noooo, not that kind of video. :) Enjoy yourselves!
