The start of October also heralded the start of our journey northwards and westwards which if all goes to plan will see us arriving back home on the 27th of this month.

We started today by continuing along the coast and then inland through wild limestone country which reminded us of parts of Yorkshire and Derbyshire. We completed the last few kilometres to the east coast by walking amongst masses of vegetation and wild herbs through the soaring Zakros Gorge between the villages of Zakros and Kato Zakros.

After a reviving swim we continued the drive through more mountain roads with occasional glimpses of the sea far below, through the resort of Sitia and finally along the top of a coastal escarpment which gave extensive views including the tranquil fishing village of Mohlos where we spent the night on its extensive car park and ate at one of the waterfront tavernas.
