As part of this trip we have wanted to visit the Greek islands of Crete and Santorini in the campervan, but other than looking up timetables before we left home we had done nothing to book the ferries. Today we decided was the time for action so we drove to the nearby town of Sparti, home of the Spartans, where the tourist office told us that the place to go was the Rozakis Agency in Gythio which would be our departure port. This was only half an hour away so we hot footed it there and found Rozakis where the wonderful Sofia spent an hour making all the necessary arrangements. So our island hopping programme is as follows:

24/9/14 Gythio to Kissamos (Crete)

5/10/14 Heraklio (Crete) to Santorini

9/10/14 Santorini to Pireaus (The port for Athens)

We are quite excited about this adventure and to celebrate having successfully made the bookings we treated ourselves to a grilled sardines lunch at a harbour side restaurant.

In the afternoon we traversed across the head of the Laconia Peninsular to the famous offshore rock of Monemvasia which has been likened to Gibraltar. In the lovely evening light we were able to admire both the rock and walled town which is built on it.

With several other vans we stayed the night on the car park at Gefyra at the end of the Monemvasia causeway and to round off an eventful day were treated to a spectacular electrical storm for about an hour.
