We made the most of our location adjacent to the beach and had a pre-breakfast swim.

After completing some chores we left at midday to travel inland again. Our destination was Ancient Messene, a fortress city inhabited by the Messenians and built about 370BC. We got there about 4.00 and had a hot time looking at the extensive defensive walls, the museum containing some of the finds from the archaeological excavations and the ruins of the city itself which cover a large area and required a long uphill slog to finish.

We found a wonderful location to wild camp right by the city walls.
