Were on the road to Phillipi
Ok so it's early and light and someone is moving around - ah that will be Catherine then. We woke the kids up at about 9 as Jennifer Hotel provides breakfast and what a breakfast! As you can see from the picture absolutely gorgeous... We eat and they kept bringing plates of this and that to try. Tomorrow I'm going swimming before breakfast so I can be hungry enough to eat it all. Fresh coffee, freshly squeezed Oranges, did we want bacon and eggs? One more wafer thin mint sir... It was a bit like that.
After we'd eaten it was warming up nicely - oh I forgot to mention we had breakfast outside in the very pleasant 30 degrees! We packed up what we were going to take with us for the data and headed to Philippi. This was named after Philip of Macedonia whose big claim to fame is that he was the father of Alexander the Great though there was no claim that Alexander had ever been there. St Paul had visited and been imprisoned and this is mentioned in the Bible. St. Paul's prison wasn't that impressive really -
most countries would make a much bigger deal of it that Greece has.
Philippi was about a 30 minute drive and when we arrived it was toasty. Yep really really hot. You get out of the car and walk a few paces and you are sweating, sweating and um sweating. Great place though 4 euros to get in and that includes the site and the Museum. We wandered round the site and then headed to the museum getting steadily more pink as time went on! Stayed for longer than we expected possibly a couple of hours - then had some ice-creams and lovely cold drinks in the park.
Catherine had sorted out a place to visit on the way back around a river, lake. I think we will go back there for dinner tonight.
Found a proper supermarket and it had talc - one very happy Dads. Picked up some bits and pieces and then headed back to the hotel for a swim. Had a long long swim and really cooled down. Then showered cleaned and headed out much later tonight - felling almost like a Greek National!
We ate in a lovely restaurant back at
Ano Kefelari - really rustic i.e. authenic Greek. I was tempted by the Gobber of Pork but had Panseta which was Barbecued Belly of Pork and very nice it was too. Drove back to the Jennifer hotel without using th SatNav and had a beer/Orange Juice out on the veranda.
When we got back to the rooms there was a Metaxa with a cherry for all of us. So I had 5 of them. Then a couple of sneaky beers we had bought in the proper supermarket.
Game of Rummikub and watched the only English channel CCTV something or other which had an interesting documentary on this Chinese couple and their chicken farm. Though they were ex-bankers and didnt realise that if chicken got frostbite their feet fell off...
Ah well time for bed and up early for a swim before we move onto Thassos.
Length versus width of a country?
