I got to Munich in the afternoon and after such a long and eventful weekend I just decided to take it easy for the rest of the afternoon and night. At the end of the night I joined a few people from the hostel and decided to do a small tour of a couple of the most famous breweries in Munich. The first one was the Lowenbrau. This is one of the most famous brew houses in the world. We toured the place and had a glass of one of their beers. I also found out this was one of the oldest breweries in Germany starting back in the 1300s. It was really interesting to see how things were done back then especially how they stored their beer for the summer months. After the Lowenbrau we headed to the next brew house called the Hofbrauhaus. This place was quite amazing as it was started by a Duke who wanted to supply the royal court with this beer. But in time it evolved in to a brewery for all. I really liked this place and its cellars but after a couple of glasses I was too tired and headed back to my
hostel for a good night rest.
The next day was pretty cool. I met up with Vince and Mathew from my German class and we explored all around Munich. We started with the old city where we saw some amazing architectures and the big coo coo clock (glockenspiel). After we headed down to the English Garden and saw some people doing some cool river surfing. It is quite amazing as it uses different physics to stay balanced compared to our surfing in Southern California. After a bit admiring these young and old shredders we headed deep in to the park to the Chinese bier garten and had some beers with some people I had met a day earlier. After that we headed to the hofbrauhous again so I could show vince and matthew the place. After a fun drinking and eating extravaganza we decided to call it a night and head home.
The next day was reserved for our trip to Dachau concentration camp. I met up with Vince and Matthew at their hostel and from there we headed to the camp. The camp was intense. You could really feel the heaviness of the
place. We spent about 3-4 hours walking through the exhibition learning about what happened there and more about the concentration camp systems. We saw quite a lot of German students with their classes at this camp. Which I thought was amazing because the germans are teaching their students the real history without sugar coating anything like we do in the US. I think every US students needs to go to a place like this so they can understand what truly happened not just with WWII history but of our own history also. The camp was exhausting and really affects your mood for the rest of the day. So we just went back to our places and spent some time with some hostel friends and called it a day.
The next day we went to the Olympic park and the BMW museum. The museum was everything I hoped it would be. The history of BMW and the most beautiful cars and motorcycles were there. I was so sad because my camera died on me when we got there but Vince and Matthew took a lot of pics so we will trade pics once we are back home. After
we headed to the Olympic park and walked around for a bit. The park was quite amazing and huge but the best part was the summer festival fair they had going on. This place had everything. Really good food, amazing beer, awesome music and of course more awesome beer. The three of us enjoyed a great afternoon there but it was time for me to head home as I needed to get ready for my trip the next day up north. I got home packed and called it a night. Munich was amazing. It was the warmest place ive been so far in Germany as it has been raining not stop for the past month. I really like the people in Munich but they were more closed off then most of the Germans I met throughout the country. I hear it is a very conservative place but all in all I would go back to munich in a heartbeat!
