We arrived at the train station to find our hotel directly accross the road about 100mt up. We read te reviews whcih advised us that it was in red light district! It was too! Fancy that.................. It wasnt intimidating but there were lots of unsavoury characters trolling the streets amongst the numerous reputable cafe's. We dropped our bags and took a walk looking for a good place to eat and settled with Kakadu the Aussie eatery........... Richard ordered a Crown Lager but they didnt have any or any VB so was convinced to try the German beer. We sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Next day we started out late to look for breakfast and ended shopping with Imeldo buying yet again another pair of shoes!! We will have to buy another suitcase just for his shoes!! :-) We decided to have a shopping day and get organised for Brussels so wandered the main shopping district wearing out Lisa. We were speaking to a few Scottish ladies, one is now living in the Hunter Valley NSW and the other inFrankfurt and they told us to walk down to the river and take in a traditional German restuarant. So that
night Richard and I walked about 4klm's and finally asked directions to find the restuarant, but we were told not to go to the one suggested but the one next door which is more traditional. Both places were packed and looked small from the front but went way back into the old buildiings. It was set up like a German beer hall where we shared a table with strangers who were feeding their dog who was under the table. Richard didnt realise until about 20min later when he moved his foot onto the dog! Because of the long walk Richard wanted a cold beer but being a traditional German place only sold Afflewein which is a bitter almost apple vinegar wine! It is terrible! But while in Germany do as the Germans do! The waitress brought us a traditional German pottery jug which held 1.5lt, the soda water did nothing to kill the taste only made more to drink! Richard ordered Weiner Schnitzel and me a Corden Bleu. We now had our bearings so took the shortest route home which was still about 3klms.
Next day we took the train to Wurnzberg a lovely little historic town about 1
hour from Frankfurt. It was quaint but as per normal is a blend of old and new. The old town squares are wonderous and the little cobblestoned alleys inviting. I really enjoy soaking up the atmosphere. We wandered around for hours before catching the, absolutely packet, 4.3opm train back. We enjoyed our tea the night before so much that we took Lisa this night and found a seat outside a cafe a few doors up and we enjoyed the packed seating and the chants and noise of a group of English lads who obviously had too much to drink. We have done lot of walking over the past few weeks but have needed to counteract the amount of food we have eaten! Our hotel was in the interesting part of town, moments from the main train station with girls looking for a man or a transvestite looking for a man or a man looking for a man but we never felt hreatened. There are numerous beggars, some who bring their dogs and some their children but they dont look hard up!
All in all Frankfurt was interesting and not sure if we made the most of out time. Next
onto Brussels in Belgium.

Smile!
Aaaahhh, your blogs make me smile. Speaking of smiling, Richard, you were beaming with your 1Ltr beer. You looked like the cat that got the cream - good for you after having been lunchtime starved for the most part of your journey - cheers! Lovely to talk to you last week, you sound like your having a ball. I'm pleased you have some sun shine at last. All good here. Chilly, but mostly lovely days. Nothing to report work or home wise. All A OK. xx
