After 7 1/2 hour train ride we arrived in Pretty Prague. Once again we arranged an apartment which was this time a new apart/hotel which is a great idea with long and short time apartments in the new part of town. We found it to be new and very clean, the apartment was wonderful, no laundry facilities though so luckily had it all up to date! There was a supermarket about 50mt away with a pub on the corner. We also noticed a shopping centre about 80mt from our door around the corner. We had decided we were all soooo tired so went to the supermaket and bought supplies so opted to cook Spag bog for tea and have an early one!
Our first full day in Prague is beautiful and we took in many sites. Firstly crossed the river to the "old"side and walked down to "Charles bridge: The bridge that is famous in the Mission Impossible movie. It was packed as it was Sunday, people everwhere. The bridge like lots of buildings in Europe was being restored. Lisa tells us there werent as many stalls along the bridge as there had been on 06 when Andrea & her
visited. We meandered along the old cobblestone lanes which were a maze of narrow streets and alleys, till we reached the famous astrological clock on the edge of the town square. The square housed cafe's and churchs. We found a place for lunch to rest our weary legs as we had walked about 10kl since setting out! It was about 1pm and Richard had a blinding headache so we searched for a Apotheke (chemist) as this is the only place you can by panadol! It was Sunday and no chemists were open so we walked back to our digs............ we didnt take the tram or metro as thought it would be easier to walk............ an hour later...... it was 3pm, Richard went for a refreshing nap, lets hope it isnt a bug! As Lisa and I had chilled sufficiently we had tea in again! We are sooo busy during each day that we cant be stuffed going out at night!
Next day we all had a sleep in as we have 5 days in Prague. I have to say that I think Prague has been the most touristy place since Switzerland. Although it is beautiful we do have to
compete with everyone else. We walked about 2ks to the Monastary which we reached by yet another finicular train ride. At the top was beautiful gardens one large rose garden and a lawn area, We wandered around the grounds and alleys high about Prague. There was lots to see so we spent quite a few hours soaking up the history and views. We decided to go to the local pub for tea................. food wasnt great but not far to stagger home!
On our final day we decided to finally visit the castle. We caught a tram which took us up to the entry. We couldnt find the ticket box and
when we did they didnt take card so was given the run aound and couldnt find the only ATM..... so we gave up and as there was plenty to see outside the actual castle we wandered around for hours through, through the garden and took in the views. Around most European castles there are "towns" within the castle walls which housed workers and shops etc. It was intersting. We caught the tram back down to the Lesser Square which we assume it is called so because it isnt the main
square.... makes sense. We hto prepared for our following days travad a night in to pack for Frankfurt.
To sum up Prague is to say that the old town is very pretty and easy to navigate. As we had 5 days here it was very relaxing.
