Amber's Journal:
Well, the day has finally come. Our fun little adventure is sadly coming to an end. Well, not completely sad because we are tired and worn out and ready to be home. It's mostly just sad because it was so much fun and I know it will probably be a really long time before we get to go back. We left Strasbourg for Frankfurt around ten this morning and despite some annoying traffic that stressed us out, we made it to the airport in plenty of time to catch our flight. These international flights are sooooo long. I think all together it was about 13 hours. We have been so blessed on this trip that none of the things that could have gone wrong did go wrong. We were very well prepared and organized which helped a lot. Everything has been so wonderful and I am truly grateful that we were financially blessed enough to be able to go on such a great trip and to be able to do it with my best friend. In less than three weeks we have been to 6 different countries and at least 11 major places within those countries. I would say
in terms of overall experience my favorites would have to be Prague, Venice, and Lauterbrunnen. We went to so many beautiful places, experienced so many amazing things, and met people from all over the world. We talked to people from Bosnia, Canada, and Dubai. We stayed in just about every type of hotel there is. We walked through buildings that are three times as old as our country. We walked on streets where kings walked over 1,000 years ago. We canoed on a Czech River, laid in the sand of an Italian beach, and hiked in the Swiss Alps. We saw weird things and learned new things. We've learned the basics of four different languages. I really do feel so blessed to have finally had this experience. Next I am going to write a list of things I want to remember for next time. (Please see "Amber's Next Time List")
Preston's Journal:
I just want to start by saying that I beat Amber in a word-search competition on our flight from Frankfurt to Chicago (which almost never happens)... oh yeah!! This morning we packed everything up and left from Strasbourg, France to Frankfurt. The traffic was ridiculous! But we
made it on time, and everything went very smoothly with turning in the car and getting on the plane. Now we're in between Chicago and Salt Lake, almost finished with our trip. Yesterday we took it pretty easy. We slept in a little, ate breakfast, watched a little French tv, then went to walk around. There are some neat buildings and such, but nothing quite like Prague or Venice. Our meals were much better than the night before, not that they could have gotten much worse! After some walking and shopping, we went back to the hotel for some husband and wife time. To finish, we went out to dinner. The flight from Frankfurt to Chicago was very long, but got to see the ocean, Scotland, Greenland, and Canada. They hand out drinks like six times on the flight, so I had to pee quite a bit. We've ended up spending about $6,000 on the trip, I think. I feel sorry for Amber having to go back to work first thing in the morning though. This trip has been so cool, and I am so glad we got to come. Being able to experience the different sights, cultures, food, languages, and people has been fantastic. I hope that it will not be too long before we are able to go on another trip similar to this (by the time we do, it may be with a kid or two!).
