We had now moved from Plan A to Plan B and found ourselves now moving again to Plan C. We had been to Dachau early and this meant we had gained half a day. Our campsite of the night was too close so we chose another just south of Munich. Without the aid of a big map we found ourselves quietly driving down the wrong road. Not a problem as we were heading for Lake Chiemsee and all that would happen is we would have to backtrack half an hour tomorrow to get on the right road again.
Conversation was stilted. What can you say after the visit we had just had. Words were failing us and all we kept saying was Why? Why? We drove in silence until we reached our stop for the night. Camping Sport Eke on the lake. A warm welcome and we were guided to our plot. It was a typical Austrian style campsite set on the banks of the lake. Smallish pitches with no real demarcation of the plot. We parked up next to a German and later that night a German caravanner turned up to our other side. The site was full of
long termers caravans some in better repair than others. They ranged from small ramshackle things with rough fencing, make do awnings and wind breaks to huge American RV’s with pull out sides. We had no lake view but somehow for one night it didn’t matter. We paid up ACSI rate of 16 euros plus the tourist tax and ordered our bread for next morning. And we settled in for the night. A reasonable campsite with views over the lake. Started to feel as if we were finally on holiday.
Glenn woke up middle of the night with a migraine/dizzy spell for which I had to find his dizzy tablets. This was something we had dreaded happening on this trip as he had been suffering for some while. The doctors verdict was the tablets he was taking were lowering his BP. A worry when away from home and driving a lot. The dizziness still persisted over breakfast but cleared enough to get on the road. We woke to better weather – well the sun was shining but the sky soon clouded over and we were cursed yet again with rain. We travelled through pretty Alpine villages, road verges full of yellow Golden Rod, Mexican Balsam and field after field of apple trees. Tiny villages peppered the hillsides, wooden chalets, cows with cow bells and small churches built of stone and painted white with red roofs. So distinctive in the south of Austria and the Trento valley. The apple trees heavily laden with the ripening fruit. Through the Brenner Pass and tunnel and into Italy and still the sun did not shine on us. And road works plagued us along the way. We stopped for dinner at a motorway service station. Not attractive but it served a purpose. Bought some provisions - well some Milka milk chocolate, a pint of milk and a pint of strawberry milk. How odd that each item cost 2 euros 10.
Our next stop our beloved Italy, with its fill them high and fill them deep campsites which no doubt will be noisy and manic.

I learned to sail on Lake Chiemsee in August 1987 (of course I blogged it)...
Unfortunately I haven't sailed since so have forgotten everything. Nevertheless, it was a great vacation. We had time to tour the area including going as far as Salzburg.
