Since we are on a travel day tomorrow, we decided to stay in Regensberg and see some things we have missed.

We set out along the park across from the hotel, the Dornberg Park, and followed the green belt through to the Danube River. The parks must be lovely in the summer with tall mature trees, gardens, ponds and fountains. The Danube is quite underwhelming as it flows flatly along with little turbulance. We walked along the river, over a foot bridge and along to the very old stone bridge built in 1000. It's under repair so we couldn't see much of it. This took us back into the old town on the southside and on to the cathedral of St Peter which dominates the Regensberg skyline. It ks the seat of the Catholic church here and has several prominant bishops buried here over the many years. It was built during the 1100s onwards on the site of an earlier one from 700 which burnt down. It is huge and quite gloomy and cold inside. It is not as elaborate as many churches we've seen but makes up for it in size - 85m long, 105m high on the bell

tower. The stained glass windows are large and intricate and would be superb with some lighting behind. The church has the oldest choir in Europe and performed last night unbeknown to us. Darn.

From there we went to the History Museum which had a good writeup in TripAdvisor. It covers the history of the Regensberg area from Prehistory, the Roman period, the middle ages to art and culture from 16th to 18th century. The archeological finds from neolithic onwards were really good and well presented showing mankinds progress over time. The Roman section was superb and they obviously had been a central part of Roman life during that rule. The art and culture section was excellent but of less interest to us. A good visit to something quite different to NZ.

Lunch was called for and we found an excellent place at the Hofbrau House. Yes, the brewers, where we had a huge schnitzel and salad with a beer. It was a man sized meal!

After a relaxing time back at the hotel we headed back out to the Christmas Markets one more time to soak in the atmosphere. It's been a dreary, drizzly day and the

wonderful lighting displays liven up the world. It was a zoo of mainly young people meeting and drinking at the Gluhwein bars. We got crepes filled with Nutella and banana. Yum!.
