Munich
Welcome to Oktoberfest!! what more could you want? So now that I was in London for a bit I thought Why not give this Big city a go......I mean sure I'm from a citiy of 700 000 so what if London has 8 million i can handle it right?? I found a job doing what love....taking a lot of bull, i can't help it if i have the gift of the gab!!! The best part is they were flexible with me going to Oktoberfest which leads me to my next adventure!!!
Simon and I parted after my three weeks in Malta and we planned on meeting up again for a bash in Munich and the 2007 Oktoberfest, their's some things you just can't miss when you come to Europe!!! So it was time and i met Simon in Zurich Switzerland as it was central for him as well beeing in Italy at the time! A few days to see Zurich, which surprisingly doesn't have much to do but we did find a few people at the hostel to go out and have a few drinks with to celebrate Simon's bday!!! We then jumped on a train and arrived in Munich on the Friday afternoon....just in time for the
Freuline...
I wasn't exagerating....does anyone want a job?? last weekend of the Fest!! So of course we dump our bags and head straight for the grounds!!! Never in my life did i imagine what was to come, we're taking a massive ground like a Fair with makeshift roller coasters and drop of fear all kinds of rids, cotton candy, peanuts, Bretzels...(pretzels) huge ones....and all sorts of venders, games to win stuffed animals the whole lot was there.....and of course about 10 different Beer tents and i mean huge Markee tents this was unreal! you need to be seated at a table in the beerr garden outside or indoors to be served a beer.....this was all packed beeing Friday night of course! Well not to worry their's only two of us so we kindly ask a table to move down and make room, and of course all in the name of Beer!!!!
Now this is when the talent comes in, we order 2 mass of Beer, and you should see these they hold a litre of beer and must wiegh easily 5pounds empty so you can imagine how impressed i am when i see this German Freuline holding 10!!!! And that's why each Mass will cost you about 10
Saturday mission
Simon and i celebrating our sneakiness into the beer tent!!! what a great day! from what i remember anyway:) Euro!!! Tell you what though you don't need much as you end up just drinking and forgetting about food altogether! So after about 3 mass each and we shared a Bretzel and half a hendle...(Chicken) Simon's friends met up with us and we headed to a Pub to catch up.....well i was blind by then we jumped on bikes as that is the mode of transport in Germany.....and to the Pub.....well i didn't last long before the Beer from that night ended up down my pant leg!!!! eeeee what a good start oooops! time for bed we'll try again tomorrow!!!
And so on day two we decided that the action was inside the tent....we didn't reallize what a mission this would be, people seriously arrive at 7am just to get in and get a table for the day......we rocked up at 10 am and when we overheard security mention that it would be 2 hours we couldn't even get to the beer tent......We made a runner....yup the only way to get in is to duck under the barrier when security was preoccupied!! woohoo!! now in the beer garden we just needed to get inside which is a bit trickier
Randoms
I just loved the hats!!! you can see in the backround the fair grounds! as their's a door to hold us back but they were slowly letting people in!! So a little wiseling and pushing and we found our way indoors!! it's a good thing we're only two i tell you! A whole other atmosphere in here.....traditional music andband playing, chanting, cheers and of course singing and dancing on the tables by all!!!! Unreal.....This is all and art though we're not quite there yet...once the shock of making it in settled we reallized that the next step was to find a table in order to get a beer, this is quite the mission we got......after a few wonders around we saw a space and went for it, people are generally happy and willing to share, so we squeezed our way onto another table with a few americans, Germans, and italian and started joining the chanting, and cheer and of course got up on our table and started dancing!!! what and atmosphere and experience....Beer Please!!! As the night dwindles and we plan on meeting Simons friends, we stumble out and yes we decided what a great time to give the roller coaster a try!!!! A few rides and managed to hold it all down, a
want a ride?
Looked like a good idea at the time....sure didn't feel right the following morning!! little adrenaline rush and off to the pub! We also met up with Jo from our Ireland tour it was a great night!
The following morning a little slow to get going but we met up for a traditional bavarian breakfast of white sausages.....it was interresting and you eat it with bretzels they love those things!! We headed back for a few more mass on the last day of the festivities and as it was sunday and most people gone we got to walk freely into a few tents and check them out most of them still consisted of drinking, singning, cheering and dancing on tables!!!
Tell you what three days was a plenty and with one day of rest on the monday we were back in London and i was back at work! Simon decided that London was not for him and headed back to Malta for work. I stuck it out for about two months in the end but after having to give up the sales job and work in offices through agencies, riding the tube and hour to and from work everyday, and just feeling like i was a lost soul in a city of 8 million
another beer?
Thanks Simon for a great time at oktoberfest!! what more can i say.... i decided that i'm really not a big city person and that i was better off letting go!
So I was back on the job hunt and trying to sort out where i wanted to go and with Christmas fast approaching i felt really stuck......
I need to keep thinking everything always works out somehow right...??
