So I have finally decided to do one of these travel blog things. I don't really know if it is or will be worth reading, but I'm writing it anyway. I'm only really now starting travelling, although you could say that I have been for seven months already. Well, perhaps not travelling, but at least foregoing some sort of an adventure. At the moment, however, I am no longer in Stuttgart and have actually not been there for almost two weeks now. Instead I am sitting at a computer at my uncles in Switzerland, writing and looking out the window at snow covered peaks such as Mt Pilatus and the Eiger, which from here, climbint it looks like no problem... We took a trip to Frankfurt with AJY on Thursday last week. It was pretty cool, but again super super cold which made it a little less fun. We went to Goethe's House, a big german writer (sometimes compared to shakespeare). It was a pretty cool place, but the tour took a really long time and it went into our lunch break so we were all pretty hungry. After lunch we went to the Kaiser Museum where Herr Dörr (one of the teachers at ajy) talked about the kaisers and history stuff. Then we went to Paulskirche. It was a beautiful catholic church. katy, phill, and kelly came to my room for dinner. katy and phill go to carthage college in wisconsin and kelly goes to the university of pittsburgh. katy lives on Ringstrasse which is a 15 minute bus ride or so, maybe a little less. phill lives in jagerhaus which is in the altstadt (old city) where i live. kelly lives in europahaus III which is down the road from me on plöck (thats my street). we decided to have a rotation of dinners at each others house to save money, speak german, and hang out. we also are planning on traveling together. in the neckar region where we live and who knows where else.... read more

so the flight was super long, almost eight hours and i didnt sleep very well. maybe like an hour, which is sometimes normal for me, but plane sleep is definitely not good sleep. check this map out. its where i flew.... read more

I just got back from 5 days in the SW corner of Germany. Basically I had my "spring break"...the temperature there was 10 or 11 degrees celsius, instead of zero, and a couple days we had some lovely sun. My friend Laura studies at the University there, which is super-old. It's in a mostly-catholic, wine-drinking part of Germany, with low unemployment...very different from Berlin. Anyway, Laura had been at UNC for a year, studying English. She's very fluent! I met her and a bunch of her friends. (I also went on a side-trip into France, to the city of Colmar, but that will get a separate entry.) The quirkiest thing I experienced was the Basel airport, into which I flew.
