Today's route was round the radio mast with an extra loop of Long Bank Lane included. Out through Chatburn, Sawley and Bolton by Bowland and home via Sawley and Chatburn. It was nice on the way out but into a very cold headwind on the way home. We chose this loop as we might see people we know. Deborah Armstrong gave us a cheery beep on Sawley Brow and we had a few minutes talking to Alan Taylor and Seppo on Hellifield road.

Our virtual journey would be from Villegusien le Lac, getting back onto the Canal Entree Champagne et Bourgogne (now emerged from the other side of the tunnel) and staying on the canal side until Cusey. The final six miles are back on small roads crossing gentle rolling hills through arable land and forests. Beze is only a tiny hamlet but it has a very lovely hotel with a restaurant. We had cycled 60 miles, the day we arrived at Beze (August 2011) and unfortunately I slid on some gravel and fell off, literally, 50 yards before the hotel. So I arrived at the hotel dripping blood from my knee and elbow. However, a hot bath and a few sticky plasters soon put the world to rights. We dined outside as it was a lovely warm evening. Just as we finished dining a storm started so we moved inside to finish our drinks. As we stood up to go upstairs I felt a twinge from my left wrist. The storm continued all night and my wrist hurt all night so I had very little sleep.

We are now three weeks into our journey and have covered 531 miles in total so we are still on track to arrive in Lourdes on Easter Sunday.

The photograph shows our hotel in Beze.
