Tuesday Night
Went to the other next door restaurant, Grillade de Courtepaille, there are apparently about two hundred throughout France, two dry ham starters and a Pork and a Steak. We were greeted very warmly and as soon as they realised we were English were offered appropriate menus. Found out that Bien Ciut is well done, which is my choice for steak. Would recommend the restaurant, if you are a meat eater. Not cheap, though good food.
Tomorrow will be two weeks since our arrival in France and Nemours is probably about a third of the way down. Once we have completed our journey tomorrow, we will be about three fifths down.
We have another short term plan to cover us for the next few days. On the map, to the south east of Macon we spotted the whole countryside dotted with lakes. The Premiere Classe thin out a bit in this area, so after some internet surfing, we found another cheapy hotel chain called Balladins, look to be the same sort of thing as Premiere Classe. We have booked a place in Viriat, just above Bourg En Presse, which will give us sometime to scout out the area.
Be interesting to see a different hotel chain as well.
We are pretty close to Switzerland here, but neither of us has a strong feeling at the moment to venture in that particular direction. I personally have a stronger inclination to keep heading south for the warmer climate.

The plan today is another longish drive, from Nemours to Macon, just above Lyon. This is us taking a leap south looking for better weather. The forecast around Lyon, certainly seems warmer, but if the French forecasts are anything like the British one's, then who knows what the actual reality will be. Well, we are about to find out for ourselves either way.
The Toll motorways are excellent and the traffic has been pretty light. Very grey today and rained most of the time. Temperature 15°C.
I have taken a picture of the glove compartment in the car, because of the sticker we were given by some good friends of ours not long before we left. It sums up our current situation fairly well. The sticker says, quit your job, buy a ticket, get a tan, fall in love, never return.
Well, we did quit our jobs, we bought a ticket for the channel tunnel, we certainly hope to get a tan, we were already in love, and we aren't really planning to return. Every time we get in the car, it reminds us of these particular friends, and what this journey is all about.
Life, live it.
Changing the subject entirely and on a more sombre note, I worked it out (it's my virago nature to keep lists and things, by the way) that the total number of graves and memorials to the missing, that we visited in the first ten or so days, added up to about half a million souls.
I can't think of anything words that would do any justice to the previous paragraph, so after a moment's pause in respect, .......................I will move on.
We drove just over two hundred miles, stopped at a couple of service stations, for coffee and snacks. The toll fee came to €22.50, but well worth it.
Arrived Macon, and eventually navigated our way to the Premiere Classe. Got here about three ish, but couldn't get the automatic reception to let me in, so we drove off and found a local Carrefour Supermarket, got some pictures developed to send to Pat's mother and found some other bits and pieces we were sort of looking for, so not a wasted afternoon.
Came back and the office was manned and got our room.
