OK, All those who bet I couldn't go a day without a blog update - You win! Today wasn't meant to be about sight seeing, it was about resting our legs and checking the bikes over, going to a local bike shop and for Jeff to get a SIM card. After breakfast Jeff looked up a bike shop and we headed off. Interestingly enough it was were the Velodrome was from last night. On arriving we found that Jeff had looked up the administrative offices of Roubaix Cycling. We went in for a look anyway and were blown away. The front office was packed with artefacts and photos from Paris-Roubaix races across the decades. It had souvenirs for sale AND served coffee. Today we head off to Roubaix, famous for being the ending of the One Day Classic, "The Paris-Roubaix". It is a city with a very strong cycling heritage. With only 56kms to do we figure we'll take things easy today. We head out via McDonald's to get a coffee and find it's not open until 9am. Infact France seems to sleep in most days. We ride around and the streets are mostly deserted until the afternoon. The riding is easy with the wind at our backs again. We turn onto a canal for about 20kms. It's a great ride. Very flat (if a bit bumpy in some parts), no cars and sheltered from the wind. There are huge barges that pass us by. Jeff tells me this is a taste of things to come on the ... read more

So a nice early rise Thursday morning as the ferry was for 6:40am and I needed to fuel up before hand. Now the one draw back to my little van, (or “Bob” as my nephew has named him), is climbing hills. I can start at 60, but I’ll be lucky if I’m still doing 40 at the top and not in third gear. So I was a bit apprehensive of taking the main A20 to reach Dover, but as it was, there was virtually no traffic and a 40mph limit, which meant I actually had to slow down from time to time.
