Paris - Day 5
Today we were to visit the L'Orangerie to see the majestic paintings of Monet's Water Lilies only I was among the missing. Just not feeling up to par so I rested while the guys enjoyed two large oval rooms filled ceiling to floor, wall to wall with the magnificent paintings. Even Joe was impressed. The rooms were designed by Monet himself and he donated the works to be displayed there. Guess I'll just have to come back to Paris. Drat. We met for lunch and headed out the the Eiffel Tower.
Since we bought tickets in advance, we avoided the 2 1/2 hour wait and walked right in. Since Ed was in a wheel chair, we were ushered near the front of the line for the elevator to the second level. Once there, there was a short flight of steep steps to get to the elevator to the summit. Ed navigated them like the trooper he is and a lovely Japanese gentlemen lent a hand with the wheel chair. All was going well until we were a few feet from the elevator to the summit when we were called out of line and informed that
Ed would not be permitted to go to the summit for safety reasons. He was disappointed but took it in stride and the three of us rode to the top. The views are everything I read about and imagined. In one direction the Seine and the mini Statue of Liberty, another Sacre-Coeur. We could zero in on the Louvre and Notre-Dame and the Champs de Mars. Linda tried to find the apartment she had one year and it wasn't until we joined Ed that they together zeroed in on it. So many great memories for the two of them.
When we had our fill, we said au revoir to the tower and strolled to a Brasserie for dinner. Linda and I had Quiche, Joe had a ham and cheese plate. Ed's meal is a blank. Tomorrow we are off. Linda and Ed are heading to St. Croix and Joe and I head to Copenhagen.
Get away day went smoothly. We arrived in Copenhagen and were able to check in to our hotel right away. Our room overlooks the City Hall clock tower and the tower over the Hotel Scandia.
What a view. We had lunch at the Restaurant
Puk just across the street from the hotel. I had Calves liver with mushrooms, bacon and onions (A+) and a great stout. Joe and a different stout, also very good, and a chicken mayonnaise open faced sandwich (also A+). A real find.
Then it was nap time for Carole.
Later we took a walk on the Stroget, Copenhagen's shopping street and found a cash machine to stock up on Danish Krone. We wandered around the streets enjoying the sites and stopped at a recommended restaurant, Katz, for a light supper. I had nachos and Joe went straight to desert for an apple crisp sort of dish. Then it was time to settle in for the night.
