Paris - 3

Today was forecast was overcast with afternoon showers and it was spot on, not that it mattered at all since we were off to the Musee d'Orsay for an infusion of impressionist masterpieces.

The venue itself is a work of art in a converted railroad station. It made me sad to see what Penn Station could have been with imagination. We immediately made our way to the 5th floor and I actually teared up as I entered the gallery. There they were, the Chartes Cathedral, water lilies, haystacks, Monet overwhelmed. On the other side of the room, Renoir's beautiful women and girls and a Rodin stature in the center. The galleries stretched before us. Degas, Sissily, Manet, Cassatt, Merisol, on and on, one after the other until I didn't know where to stare.

When we arrived the crowds were still at the door, we had prepaid and even went to the front of the line because of Ed's wheelchair, but the galleries soon filled. Most galleries had a place to sit and that was very much appreciated. After drinking our fill we headed to the cafe for a snack,

quiche for me, mini Napoleons for Joe with a glass of Chardonnay. Then it was down to the 2nd level for Van Gogh, Seurat and Gaugin. So many iconic paintings in one place on the one hand overwhelms and on the other feeds the soul.

We taxied back to our hotel and stopped at the cafe next door for a snack. Ed had onion soup and Linda a carpaccio of beef platter. Joe and I sampled pastisse. It has a anise flavor and it is very strong unless cut with water, something like Oozo. Forgive my spelling please. Now the rains came down and we tiptoed through the raindrops to the hotel.

After our nap Joe and I set out for the Arc de Triomphe. Our cab dropped us on the Champs-Elysees and we strolled along with 5,000 of our new best friends. Only a slight exaggeration. Everyone is out and about on a Paris evening. The cafes, bistros, McDonalds and restaurants are teaming. Not sure if anyone actually stays home and cooks. We walked to the Arc but did not go inside. Then we returned to the hotel and found out that Ed

and Linda had ordered room service so we walked around the corner to a cafe. We ordered a bottle of Cab, Joe had a Margherita Pizza (B-) and I tried the Carpaccio Salad (A). It was sprinkling when we settled in for the night.
