Paris was a welcome break from the endless driving on UK roads and also as a contrast to the villages and towns we had spent the last 4 weeks exploring.

Our apartment on the Rue de Fayette was everything you imagine a Parisian apartment to be and more. The apartment was large enough for us all, with each of the 2 bedrooms and the lounge with a tiny balcony overlooking the street and a florist overflowing with flowers on the corner. Le Fayette was above shops on the 4th floor with a very tiny old fashioned lift.

Le Fayette was both close enough and far enough away from all the main tourist attractions. We were a couple of minutes walk from 2 Metro stations to take us wherever we needed to go but also in a mainly inner city residential area and one of my favourite things was to cross the road and walk 100 m to the local patisserie, Café Bar or the amazing fromagerie the same way in which those who live here do. Not to mention my love of fresh bagettes and cheese,

The other joy of Paris was the helpfulness of the people who smiled at our pitiful attempts to communicate in a mixture of French, English and sign language. It was fun too to see the kids studying the phrase book and then practicing what they learnt including successfully asking for the bill in the restaurants.

Did I forget to mention the sights? We climbed up and down stairs of many (Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triumphe) and wore out shoe leather on others (the Louve, Musee de Orssay and Montmatre).
