No matter how many times I visit this city, I am always in awe...
On Monday, I took a city tour for a few hours to let my foot rest and also stay warm. I am always amazed that people pay money to ride a bus around town but never look out the windows or plug in their headphones. I took the grand city tour that hit all of the highlights and then took another one that showed the st germain or latin district. The city is very accessible by metro and there is always one less than 500 meters away.
The weather is still cold, but my foot is killing me. It did not stop me from walking nearly 3 kilometers or almost 2 miles. I am staying in the Rue Cler district which is where the Eiffel Tower is in. It is an extremely safe, quiet neighborhood. The brasseries and cafes are lovely with very friendly people willing to help you if you try to speak French.
Every time I walk out of my hotel or a cafe, I am in awe of the Eiffel Tower. It is simply amazing. I have taken like 30 pictures
Eiffel Tower at night #2
the first five minutes where all the lights sparkle of it from different settings of my camera and nothing seems to capture it like the real experience. Once I am home, I will edit some of the pics and send them out... Several years ago when I was here the tower was lit in orange lights, now it is blue lights with blinking lights for the first five minutes of every hour.
I met this beautiful, Frenchman, Alain, last night at dinner. He is georgous and I can barely understand his broken English. What I could understand is that the French love their culture and exquisite food prepartion. With that he explained why wine is so important to set the meal and why it is a sin not to have dessert. So from now on I have had great desserts with each meal. They also believe in the better restaurants not to turn tables so once a table has had their service, the restaurant usually does not re-set the table for the night. So when they served their 20 or so tables they are done, interesting!
I have met a lot of tourists and all of them are interested in American politics, more so than most of
the Americans are. It might be because every single tv station has something about our incoming president or the hopes they have on him fixing the worlds problems.
Yesterday I saw my first gypsy, I thought it was too cold but I guess not. For those of you not familiar zith them, they are usually women dressed in drab clothing asking for your help in English once they spot you and they start asking you questions they have their children swarm around you to pickpocket you. Suprisingly the gypsy was at the Louvre where I thought I was sure to see them at the Eiffel tower maybe it is too cold to hang out there. Unfortunately, I saw several people get pickpocketed by them.
On Tuesday I am hoping to hit the one of the new museums that focus on the Imressionist era. The museums here allow for you to post pics so I will when I have them.
Till then...
