An early morning start driving through beautiful misty kent to Dover. It was great waving a fond farewell to the white cliffs. We gave 3 young Belgian backpackers lifts as we travelled through the countryside to our first destination. Lengthy drive over, we wandered around the village and were all awestruck with the obscenity of a French war grave site with 3000 crosses- unnecessary suffering amidst such beauty. Took ages to get round to talking again, but we then went into usual mode and enjoyed a gourmet meal with local wine - did you know that Sancerre can be rouge, and is a light Pinot Noir? However we were speechless again when we realised just how much the bottle had cost us!... read more
