I know, I know, having not heard from us for 3 months, some of you then suddenly get 8 Blog alerts. You are not alone. I even managed to send them to myself. The Blog site suffered a serious gremlin attack. Whilst sneakily sending some of you the alert, it was telling me, “error, unable to publish”. I did what any normal computer-impatient person would do, and just kept hitting the send button….. 8 times apparently! It then published the Blog in some parallel universe, where it could only be accessed in a most convoluted manner…..but not by me, who, at this time, still thought it unpublished, and continued to hit that key. I then found I wasn’t the only one having a problem. Ali, the poor guy who runs Travelblog, was receiving many “help ... read more

Our start to our arrival in France was yet another interesting adventure. It was late when we arrived on the ferry into Calais. Our plan was to drive to Paris and spend the night somewhere in the area. We programmed Lee (the GPS) to get us there, but discovered it was going to take half the night (not using the Toll highways). Ernie was getting low on diesel so on our way we tried to find a petrol station. Our journey was uneventful as the car swallowed up the French motorway miles. Just like the M6 when it was first opened. We arrived later in the afternoon and were staying in a Campanile just outside of the town. By the time we arrived the visitors had thinned out and we found a peaceful oasis of calm. How can you ... read more

We are now in Beaune in profoundly French Burgundy for a look at small-town France. This afternoon, we'll take an historic walk along Beaune's colorful streets and through its medieval hospital museum. Our tour of Beaune ends with a sampling of this region's most famous product, Burgundian wine. "A bientot" ... read more
