Hello! What a weekend! Franzi, Lucy, Kate, and I went to Dijon and Beaune for the weekend. I had my 10km race in Beaune on Satuday and it was a lot of fun. I headed to Beaune on Friday morning to pick up my dossier for the race and then met Lucy, Kate, and Franzi later that night in Dijon where we were staying for the weekend. Kate has a friend studying in Dijon so she met us at the train station and took us to a little restaurant for dinner before heading to our hostel. The hostel we stayed at was about 20 minutes by bus from the train station but was really nice. Saturday morning we woke up around 7:30AM and had breakfast at the hostel before heading out to catch a train to ... read more

Hallo! Yesterday, Amy, Ross, Andromeda, Gemma and I took the bus from Mulhouse to Freiburg in Germany. The bus picked us up around 8:20 and we arrived in Freiburg just after 9:30 I think. It was 7.50euros one way so I think I will be going to Freiburg more often. It was a great day! We walked around through the centre ville and around Munsterplatz where the Munster Cathedrale is located. There was a marché(outside market) with venders selling fruits, vegetables, cheese, sausage and so on. We also did some shopping throughout most of the morning and I bought another pair of gloves, so I don't need to depend on one pair once it gets colder! We then decided to hike up this trail to the top of this hill that overlooked the city and out ... read more

Bonjour à tous!!! This has been a wonderful weekend! I had class on Thursday and Friday this week. 4 hours of class total, so not too bad! lol. Thursday night I returned to the running club and it was so nice to see everyone again. Jean-Michel, Nicolas, and Yves(I'm finally learning names!) were all there and a new girl who started this week. They were interested in hearing about my break and travels. Jean-Michel is so great because he is always asking me questions and getting me to use my French, even when we are running. Now that it's darker earlier we go to a new park that is lit at night, which is better since we don't meet to run until 6:30pm. I'm not sure how many miles we did but we ran for a ... read more

Hello! I was up at 6:30am (French time) so 12:30am (US time) to read about the election results! Today was our last day of vacation and tomorrow it's back to school. I only have 2 hours tomorrow and then 1 hour on Friday, so it won't be a tough week. Then it's the weekend again! As much as I've enjoyed les vacances, I think it will be good to go back to school and get into a routine again. Last Thursday we got back from our trip and we also got our first month's pay! That was a nice surprise. Friday I did some grocery shopping and renewed my Tram/Bus pass for the month of November. Saturday I got back into running again(after of week of not running my usual 4 miles every day) so I ... read more

Hello everyone!! Just got back to France this morning. It's so nice to be back in France and hear a language I know and understand again!! We had a great trip in Vienna and Prague. Friday evening Franzi and I left for our 5 day adventure to Vienna and Prague. We had an overnight train from Mulhouse to Zurich and then switched trains and headed to Vienna. The train from Zurich to Vienna was nice and I tried to sleep most of the night. We arrived in Vienna around 8:30 in the morning. It was so chilly when we arrived! We first headed to our hostel to check in and drop off our stuff since our room wouldn't be ready until after 2pm. We headed into town and walked around the the city. We found out ... read more

Bonjour à tous ! (Hello everyone) Last week was my first official week of teaching and I loved it! I like all my students and I think it will be a fun school year! I ate in the school cafeteria last Tuesday and Thursday and it was okay. You have to reserve a meal for the days you will be eating at the cafeteria so I wrote a check and told them I’ll be eating there every Tuesday and Thursday. The cafeteria at Lycée Bugatti is pretty similar to school cafeterias at home. Since I’m a teacher I don’t have to wait in line, which I didn’t know the first day I went until one of my students saw me standing in line and told me I could pass through and enter. What a nice and ... read more

Hello everyone!!! Hopefully I can keep up this once a week update about my adventures here in France. I’m so happy to hear you are enjoying my blog entries! Friday was my first official day of teaching!!!! Last week I observed all the teachers and met all the students I’ll be working with this school year. It’s nice working at the high school and middle school because they are so different. The middle school kids had prepared lots of questions to ask me, like where I was from, why I’m in France, etc. One kid even asked me if I could sing the Star - Spangled Banner. I didn’t on the spot but maybe it could be a lesson and we could sing it together. We’ll see. Friday morning, I met with the Terminale class, which ... read more

Hello everyone! To all those who I’ve just added to my blog…WELCOME or Bienvenue! as we say in French! I’ve been in Mulhouse, France for just about 2 weeks now and will officially start teaching this week once I’ve met all the students. Everything is going well and I’m having a lot of fun living and working in France. Yesterday I spent the day in Bâle/Basel, Switzerland. It was cold and rainy but we still had fun and managed to see a lot of the city. I went with my roommate Amy and her friend, Gemma, who is living and working in Strasbourg. Bâle is a nice town. This was my first time to Switzerland so it was exciting to visit a new place! It’s about a half an hour train ride and with my Carte ... read more

Hello! What a busy week I’ve had! I’ve just returned from a morning at the lycée(high school) and today I met the “Terminale” class I’ll be working with, which would be our senior year of high school in the US. They are an energetic group of boys and one girl but they seem excited to have me here as the assistant. Once I’ve met all the classes, then I’ll start teaching. Monday morning, I went to the Bureau des Étrangers in Mulhouse (the office for foreigners) to hand in all my paperwork so I can get my carte de séjour. It’s such a long process here in France that I received a “Récépissé de Demande de Carte de Séjour,” which is temporary, until I get the real thing. Who knows when that will be? That afternoon ... read more

Hello again! I've had a great first week in Mulhouse and everything is going well. I'm finally all settled into my apartment and getting more and more familiar with the city and how to get around. Wednesday I met the running club I'm going to join. I think they meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening, so that will be nice to belong to a club for French people who run also. They were very nice and were so happy to meet me and welcome me to Illzach. I'm very excited! While I'm here in France I've decided I would like to participate in some 5K and 10K races. I found a 10K race in November and all runners receive a bottle of wine in addition to other goodies. Also, my goal for the Spring before I ... read more
