Nyborg castle is located here in this 15000 inhabitants in central Denmark. I got used of the Scanrail pass to make a quick visit to this little small town. It is a quick train ride from Odense, you got to check the train timetable for the time and frequency of the trains stop at this small station. There is a busline to take you from the train station to town but I walk and enjoy the scene along the way. It is a delight small little town with moats, harbors, castle, and shops. The castle was built in the 11th century and have been rebuilt several times. The annual "Danehof" meeting took place here in Nyborg from 1354 to 1500s. Danehof was the event of the year in the old day where important individuals and politicians ... read more

So after I spent some time in Odense, it was time to move on to visit this small island town Aeroskobing. Getting here is half of the fun itself. The ferry from Svendborg to the Aero island is about an hour and the Scanrail pass does not cover this ferry so it is better if you purchase a roundtrip ferry ticket rather a two one-way tickets. The island is very quiet in the evening as tourists go back to the mainland. Walk around town is the first order of the day when I first arrived in the island. It was nice and peaceful. Too quiet to the point you can even hear the rocking sound of the water come into contact with the bank of the land. There is virtually no traffic light. In the front ... read more

Supposed to check out the Danhostel in Copenhagen today. Stop by the front desk to see if I can extend for an extra night. The hostel had fulled booked. Damn it ! So tired of dragging my backpack around to look for a new hostel, I headed to the train station. Activated my Scanrail pass and on my way to Odense, the third largest city in Denmark and is heavily promoted as the native town of the beloved HC Andersen. Arrive in Odense 2 hours later courtesy of the Danish fast (express) train. Saw the youth hostel by the train station. Got off and stop by to see if there is a bed available. Yes, it is ! The train station is where the city library located as well on the mid level. Got to use ... read more

Hello there family and friends...i think this is going to be my last blog before i leave copenhagen since i only have about a week and a half left. Craaazy. This last weekend I went to Western Denmark on another study tour, this time by bus only and no ferry ride. =( hehe. jk. It was great fun because I'm getting to know the people more and more since we were on the last trip together too. My birthday was on Friday, the day I left for the trip, so i celebrated Friday night with some people here. I wish I could have taken a picture of it, but my professor and the intern got me a cake...well two humongous Danish pastries that could feed at least 30 people decorated with lots of little Danish flags. ... read more

Left Amsterdam for Copenhagen this evening. My flight was scheduled to leave AMS at 605 PM and after an hour I arrived in Copenhagen. Got some money at the ATM at the airport, stopped by the information desk to ask for ways to get to the hostel which is quite centrally located in the center city. I made reservations online before leaving home but I did not pay so I was a little nervous if my reservation had been canceled. Got help from a local for the bus departed location and the stop to get off. I was able to check in and pay for my accommodation at the hostel. With 1020 beds, it is the largest hostel in Europe (?). I met a Finn roommate who is on his way to Norway for his summer ... read more

Well as you all know I headed off to Scandinavia a few weeks ago to join a contiki tour. Were we all in search of a prince like Mary? Or maybe just a frog or two? Who knows? Lets see if I can remember all the highlights......... DENMARK. A country made up of 500 ish islands across the Baltic sea and birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, our starting point was the capital Copenhagen which I think must be the worlds bicycle capital. I found the starting hostel with Brianna and Stew, two fellow travellers I met at baggage reclaim after hearing them chatting about the same trip. Our little group grew to 5 when we met two more on the wrong train out of town. Yes I know, you'd think after all that travelling I could ... read more

København (have to use the ø since it is right there on the keyboard) is everything you would expect a large (relatively speaking, European cities are tiny we walked across half the city in a few hours with checking palaces out) Scandinavian city to be. Clean. Safe. Nice people. We met a guy at the train station who rents out rooms in his apartment to backpackers for 20€ a night which is good because Denmark is expensive. It has a kitchen and is pretty nice so overall a great find. We met a Korean guy named Hokay (spelling??? no idea) Lee who is really chill. His english is a little haulting so communicating can be tough sometimes but he is really nice and has a guide book so we found out some great things to do ... read more
