WTF
...seriously July 6th: This is actually an okay hostel, the noise levels from the street were a bit loud and there is a large communal kitchen right outside my room which of course people will convene in at the end of their night out but I got a pretty good sleep regardless.
Some of the clientele here are less than awesome though, as I wrote yesterday; they seem to be mainly interested in cheap beer, with the history, culture and amazing architecture as a secondary concern. Half of them are wearing those idiotic "if found, return to the pub" t-shirts to show how awesome they (think) they are, and for some reason, one of the guys keeps giving me this really hostile look every times he sees me, tries to stare me down (in fact before I was sitting reading my book and I could see him in my peripheral vision and he just sat there for a full minute staring at me with the hostile look on his face), I'm not sure if he's worried that I might try to take his woman or steal his tribe's fire or something?
Oh well, I am going to go out and
paddle boating self pic
I am bloody terrible at these self-taken photos, but it was just so lovely out there enjoy the less beery side of Prague.

Hm well I learnt that my (equivalent NZ$27) taxi ride last night equated to a 12 minute walk today ...scam-o-rama! Must have driven me around the block a few times! Booked my ticket onwards to Nuremberg and then went out to explore. went to a museum, partly out of interest and partly to because of the stinking hot temperature, after that I was on this massive bridge when I spotted paddleboats! Turned out they were cheap to hire (most things seem dirt cheap here... outside of taxis of course) it was lovely...ell I saw a giant dead rat floating along and a man in a striped speedo splashing about in the water, but other than that it was a wonderful experience, and so hot that I eventually overcame my worries about my horrible pale, flabby body and shed my shirt. The lady at the paddleboat hire (who sounded Australian) said that it was 30°C in the shade!
Decided to have a brief Siesta and treated myself to a gelato to cool down. I wandered across the Charles Bridge which is loaded with musicians, puppet shows (Claire would approve), caricaturists
bustling on the bridge
heading towards the castle... getting burned with every step but too stupid to realise it and more stalls than you could chuck a koruna at!
Headed up the hill for a llok at the castle and good view of Prague and am currently enjoying a nice peach iced tea and a cheap tomato and mozarella roll.
For some reason, segways see popular here.
- NOTE TO SELF -
If you lose your sunblock in Poland, don't just say "oh it'll be fine, they don't have the ozone hole here or anything" you will still burn!!
By the time I realised that my skin was becoming alarmingly RED I was already up the top of the hill and 30-40 inutes walk away from anywhere I could see that sold sunblock... hopefully I won't be reading this in a few years thinking "oh so THAT'S when the cancer started"

Hm that was interesting, just witnessed a bit of a Czech barney, lots of shouting and pushing... I missed a bit of it as I was trying to look caught up in my book and beer (yes the beer was cheap but it wasn't the centre of my day) but I'm pretty sure that soebody swung at somebody else... whatever the case, it ended with a guy on the ground and the police and ambulances being called!
Had a nice beef goulash with dumplings with a couple of beers... as much as I don't want to get into the boozy "I'm in Prague... WOOHOOO!" scene, at the end of such a long hot day, a couple of cold drinks is all good... plus I'm an adult!
Oh almost forgot, I took in a great Dali exhibition because I love that crazy man's work (plus it got me out of the sun for a bit).
I gave up the chance to see Faith No More play in Prague last night because I was just too sick while I was booking things to motivate myself to navigate a music festival, though I have been (I'm slightly ashamed and stalkerish to say) been keeping an eye out for them around town.
NB: I later found out that the show got pulled anyway due to the thunder and lightning storms damaging the stage at the festival or some such thing.
