(Note:this is backdated, so this is actually written after my "I'm so sorry I haven't written entry from the actual day). Rudi and I left around 9 am this morning for Pula. It was very nice of him to drive me the ~1.5 hour journey: I had fully expected to take a bus. After a bit of confusion trying to find the Omladinski (Youth) Hostel - we only had a very basic map in my Let's Go! book, which gave directions by local bus from the bus station- he dropped me off there, and I was on my own. The Omladinski Hostel was described in my LG book as "feeling like summer camp." Which proved to be very true. (A more helpful description would have been "sauna-like dorms that smell of urine from the bathrooms next ... read more

On Sunday morning, I experienced a bit of a quick awakening. I knew that Rudi and I were to be leaving for Poreč, Croatia sometime "in the morning," although the exact time had never been decided upon. After my late return from the SFE the night before, I thought the time could be negotiated to be a bit later. Rudi popped into my room to say that he was ready to go. Uhh, shoot. I hyper-showered, hyper-packed, and hyper-bid adieu to my relatives, and we were on our way. It was definitely nice to be back in Poreč again. Majda and Rudi have a camper/attached tent in Zelena Laguna (Green Lagoon), where they go for a few weeks every summer. It's very cozy, and the neighbors in the little camper neighborhood - whether from Germany or ... read more

Our last full day in Croatia was fun, we went out to this club/pub/bar district in Zagreb, to a pub where Ivona's boyfriend Ivan was dj'ing that night. It was a small, cool little pub with a great vibe. I had a couple Karlovacko and Renata had a multi-vitamin drink. I wish we had those in Canada. At one point I went to the bathroom, and noticed that the wall between the mens and women's was only about 5 ft high. I wasn't too sure how to react, so I just pretended that I couldn't see into the women's toilets. As soon as we got there it started pouring. We were going to go to this techno dance club but there were 8 of us that couldn't fit in a Yugo, and we weren't going to ... read more

Sorry guys for no updates, we have been at the resort town of Baska Voda for 4 days with no internet. Its kind of like going to the lake in Canada but with more nightclubs on the beach, no bugs, and topless women everywhere. For serious. Weather was pretty good but it did rain really hard one day. No biggie. We got a killer deal on the Villa we stayed in - 20 euros a night, because renata knew them. Did you know its a Croatian tradition to start the day with a shot of vodka? I know now. I also had an interesting walnut liqueur, and great croatian beer. A huge bottle is about $2, and they were shocked at how expensive it was in canada. We mostly just tanned, ate home made doughnuts, and ... read more

G'day everyone, Well, we have done London, Amsterdam and are now in the gorgeous Croatia and I now understand why Josie raves about it so much. But first, London. We arrived early Tuesday morning, checked into our dive of a hotel (seriously you can't get anything decent there for less than $200 per night), and then we slept! I know it sounds like we're sleeping this trip away sometimes but it's tough going all this changing of time zones and it's not being kind to our bodies. Anyway, we got up around 9pm and went and checked out Piccadilly, Leicester Square and then had dinner in China Town before heading back to sleep some more. The next day Stu woke up sick again and spent the day in bed. I was coming in and out because ... read more

Renta and I are hanging out at the internet cafe in downtown Zagreb. Its really hot out today now. Want to hear about my trip here? Sure ya do. When I landed in Toronto we couldnt get off the plane because of a storm. I waited in that bloody plane for three hours. When I finally got off I had 15 min. to get to the next flight here. Needless to say my luggage didnt make it on with me. Now I have one underwear and one sock to get me by until it gets here. Oh well. Jon will like this: Evian water in Vienna is 1.50 euro. Beer is 1 euro. Beer is officially cheaper than water. I noticed in Vienna, everyone was drinking Red Bull. I guess it really is that popular in ... read more
