Rainy morning in San Juan. Breakfast at Pannes. Pedro had empanadas again. Lori had the pancakes with Nutella and mixed fruit. Had the same waiter as yesterday. Took an Uber to Casa Bacardi for $12. Hector drove us efficiently in the Green Kia. No blisters riding in the Uber and a nice break for the feet. Mixology tour at 10:30. Another downpour of rain waiting for the tour. Slight delay of the start of the tour due to the rain. We had the welcome beverage while waiting included as part of the tour package. $75 dollars each for the tour and mixology lessons. First was the history of the Bacardi company. Started in Cuba and then moved to Puerto Rico. A lesson on how the rum is made. Sugarcane, water and the "special yeast". A tasting of the special reserve was next. Then it was on to the mixology room. All the stations were prepped with the ingredients for a mojito and a pina colada. The mojito was first. One lime. A teaspoon of sugar. Muddle. 4 mint leaves. A shot of the white rum and then stirring with the special mix spoon. Simple and delicious. Next it was on to
the shaken pina colada. 25 mL of pineapple juice. 50 mL of coconut cream. One shot of dark rum. 1/2 shaker of ice. Shake for 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is coated in ice. We were told to be careful to hold on to the top and bottom. Girl in the row behind us failed and there was a crash of the shaker and a glass knocked to the floor between Pedro and Lori. Next Lori had a fail in mixology as well. Turned to see the chaos behind and suddenly there was another mess. It seems that if you only hold the lid as you set down the shaker the pina colada drops and makes a mess. Good news. There were several stations that were not occupied and Lori had another chance at a second mixing of the pina colada. Lots of fun on the tour and price equivalent to restaurant price for the drinks here in San Juan! We took an Uber from Casa Bacardi to the ferry at Cataño. The plan was for lunch and then take the ferry to Old San Juan across the San Juan Bay for the 50 cents. No restaurants
were open for lunch at Cataño. it turns out the ferry is not running from Cataño to Old San Juan either so we got a ticket for the "land ferry" replacement for the same price of 50 cents each. Lots of locals on the bus. We were the only tourists. We were dropped off in Old San Juan at the ferry terminal where the cruise ships arrive. We had lunch at a local place and were sitting outside under roof overhang for another storm and down pour. We were far enough back that we did not get wet. It was a nice storm with some good lightening and thunder. After lunch it was still drizzling. We decided to try to take the bus back to Condado as we were right at the bus terminal. Found the right bus at the terminal, but there was not a driver. We sat and waited. And waited. Several other bus lines were leaving, but our bus was not going. Another bus came in and parked for our bus line. Still no driver and no action. We finally gave up after 40 minutes and went back to the I love PR sign and called for
an Uber. He was there in 2 minutes and we were back to our hotel in less than 10 minutes. Dinner at restaurant near hotel and then relaxed by infinity pool.
