I'm in San Francisco now, but am updating the blog for Panama. If you don't normally check out the photos, you don't want to miss these, lots of National Geographic stuff. Copy and paste into your browser: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=n1ics9r.2corx88j&x=0&y=rerjvi Been doing lots of jungle hikes and having some great cultural adventures. The jungles are so thick that I really needed my own machete (you never know when you need to hack something). Spent time on the boat, on Shepard Island and visiting different islands. The doctor, a 70 year old man originally from Costa Rica who is the caretaker on Shepard Island, would often make us dinner. We just needed to bring some sort of meat and he would cook everything up. It generally takes him about 4 hours, so we have to get him going early. ... read more

Hi guys, So i´ve spent the last few days in Bocas Del Toro which has been so relaxing, coming from Puerto Veijo! If you like surfing and just hanging out definately come here, it´s just some little islands off the carribean coast in panama. Must admit though christmas was a real non event, we had a huge party at the hostel christmas eve but seriously chrissy was like a non event.....hope everyone had a brilliant chrissy at home. From the sounds it was quite cold though, it rained here that really tropical weather and then it was just superbly beautiful weather after that! The strangest thing happened last night too. I don´t know, all you surfers out there might be able to relate to this story....so we went out surfing in the morning....well Im just a ... read more

We arrived in Bocas "Isla Colon" in the morning on December 19 2007. As comical as it was we took a cab to our house, which is located at the end of Main Street. For those of you who have yet to make it to the island the airport is 4 blocks to our house. You could say it was a waste of a quick $5 dollars but the AC in the truck was worth it. After unloading our gear we hooked up with Jeff, John and Jim and got some breakfast at a little place cropped out over the water. I don't remember the name of the eatery, however, I do remember it being very good and very cheap. The day passed by slowly as we took a tour of the Red Frog Resort with ... read more

There may be no more "undiscovered," off-the-beaten-path places left in the Caribbean, but Panama's Bocas del Toro archipelago comes close. This collection of more than 10 islands near the border with Costa Rica has becoming one of the favorite stops for tourist traveling through Latin America like me, but has been mostly ignored by the rest of the travel world. The islands of Bocas del Toro are the essence and the mirror of Caribbean Panama. They are located in the extreme western part of the country, only 40 kilometers from the Republic of Costa Rica. This archipelago has the perfect combination of nature and historical and cultural traditions, with a charming variety of aquatic species, coral reefs, mangroves, tropical forest, beaches with crystal clear water, undisturbed jungles with all the flora and fauna you can imagine. ... read more

Okay..made it out of Panama City and travelled for a night to Chitre. The bus ride was $7.50 per person and about 3.5 hour ride. The hostal for $10/night. It was a little loud, but we managed to make it through the night! The suicide shower (cold water) was a little scary, but we are still alive. There was a great little church in the center of town. The bus ride from the city was air conditioned and quite comfortable. We are getting by for now with our weak Spanish, but wonder how people that don´t know any can survive! We met another couple traveling from the states. They were from Seattle and are taking a year to travel with their 5 yr old. After staying a night in Chitre, we caught one local bus to ... read more

... and sun-tanned faces and the coming of Christmas with the promise of sand instead of snow. Since we last wrote in San Jaun del Sur, Nicaragua, we´ll start there. We ended up staying there a week and then we got word that my brother, Andre, was making plans for a quickie surf trip. Next thing we knew we hopped on a bus, crossed the border into Costa Rica and five hours later were sitting on a park bench in Liberia, Costa Rica. Our official meeting place was...central park 2pm. Low and behold, a watermelon and a beer later (this is the first country with beers over $1) Andre pulls around the corner in the rental car. The meeting was a success. All thanks to the magic of the world wide web. Soon, we were off ... read more

Hola from Panama City! We made it! It wasn´t without its struggles. Our flight was just fine, both planes leaving fairly close to on time. We arrived at customs and managed to not have our tourist cards to enter the country. It was the first of many tests of our spanish! We aren´t quite sure where along the way we were suppose to get the tourist cards, but we were directed by customs down the hall to purchase one. They were $5 each. Deb headed over to buy them and John waited at customs. 1st nerve racking experience! Getting thru customs and standing on the sidewalk outside the airport, we looked for the sought after ¨SHERMAN¨sign, but no one was there to greet us! This was not too much of a surprise since we had e-mailed ... read more

Hello everyone, We just left Santa Fe, spent the night in David and now we are in Boquete. Santa Fe was a very small mt. town with barely anything in the town. There was probably about 6 public buildings in total and no supermarket, internet, bank, etc. It was a very peaceful 4 days in the mountains. We stayed at a guest house with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. At night because there are few lights in the town we could see the stars extremely well and we even saw some fire flys. Since the town was so quiet at night, there was nothing to do so we watched South Park on the community television. It was funny because we watched the episode where the kids go on a choir tour to Costa Rica. ... read more

(written for Ed by one of the beautiful women, Kathy) Dear Friends, Family and Strangers, This is Ed's first foray into the electronic world of blogging. OK, so he had to get a beautiful woman to get it started for him but at least it's started! He WILL attempt to update this on a somewhat regular basis to keep everyone informed of where he is and what he's up to. However I'm certain he won't want this to get in the way of his very busy schedule of snorkeling and kite surfing. For those of you who don't know Ed, he's devilishly handsome, athletic, financially independent and smart gentleman. Ed wants nothing more than to share his great lifestyle with a like-minded woman. A woman that is laid back, athletic, likes to swim, snorkel, do yoga ... read more
