I left Ometepe Island which I loved my 2 days there, but it was time to move on to the next adventure. Myself & the couple I met at Monkeys Island Christian and Marilyn decided to head out together toward Granada, We walked about 20 minutes down the winding Rock and ditch filled road carrying all of our gear ( and I have one of those Rolling suitcases lol) to catch the school bus to Moyogalpa and get to the Ferry to cross to Rivas. After around a 3 hour bus ride to the port ( 24 cordoba= $1.20) the little boat was waiting so we got a move on and jumped on, now this boat really was ragged...and remember what I said in my last blog about Lake Nica was like an Ocean?? ...well yes this was the craziest boat ride EVER! the waves were ( and I'm not kidding ) about 15-20 feet high. We were bobbing back and forth back and forth, tipping so far side to side that people on the opposite side om could reach down and scoop water. It was definately an adventure that's for sure!!!
We FINALLY arrived in Rivas after about an
hour and a half, We split a cab to the bus station ( 20 Cordoba each ) Pulled into the station where all the school busses going in every part of the country, we searched for the Granada bus..AAHHH HAAA...there we go...The scene there with the vendors is crazy, selling everything and they come through the lanes of the bus selling everything from baby clothes to chicken in a plastic bag with 2 tortillas and enselada to fresh roasted Cashews ( $ 5 for a big bag, which I splurged on ), They threw our bags on top strapped em on and we were off, it is true what they say "you get what you pay for" because you see especially in Central America how really different thigs are then in the states, not that I care just stating the fact for example you never really notice how much the states are into comfort and safety...you buy a ticket for a bus on greyhound your luggage is stored under the bus and you get your own seat no one stands up no one riding the roof, here they pack as many people on as humanly possible, the roof, the lanes,
3 to a seat on a 2 seater school bus etc etc. ( The hour and a half trip from Rivas to Granada costed ( 26 Cordobas ) so you see????
All in all I love Nicaragua..The people, food, the weather, sites etc etc its DEFINATELY on my top 3 countries I've come to and outside of the west coast beaches there's really no gringos here!!!! PRICELESS!!!
So we arrive in Granada at a gas station downtown market area which we get off collect our thoughts and say my goodbyes to the Swiss Couple as I had reservations at Hostel Mochilas so I got my cab ( 30 Cordoba from the city center) The Market area where all the vendors are selling fruits and veggies is really nasty I wouldn't buy any food there in my opinion I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Cholera outbreak there, trash all over the street, horse shit everywhere, etc etc So I was happy to get to my Hostel in a nice part of town ( Hostel Mochilas ) which is a quiet place just what I like, I got my bed and put my stuff in my locker and took
a walk around the town, I came back a few hours later and who do I see at the front gate? Marilyn and Christian they still hadn't found a hostel yet, this is why I use Hostelworld ahead of time, they came in looked around and we had a beer, but they did not stay as the private room was not adequite for the Mrs. So I walked with them out I was hungry and they were going to catch a cab and look at a few more places, so we again made plans for the next day to walk around and have some lunch before they are off to Managua and then Corn Island for the X-mas Holiday.
The following day They hit me on skype and we met up and took a walk down to Lake Nicaragua and saw some statues, went to stock up on things at the store , had some lunch and beers all around great day! They leave tomorrow and I think I'll catch the bus to Managua as well to get a connecting bus to Leon...Until next time....Caio!
