Very fascinated by your plans to start a GMO free seed organization! Cool idea. I have a degree in horticulture and love to talk sustainable farming and all that jazz. Cheers and good luck in Vietnam!
All is well. Hi. I'm back in Canada saving my pesos for another trip. Cheers and glad to hear all is good, too bad about Colombia, hope you find yourself another contract that allows for some travel! Life is short.
A series of choices Education comes from the choices we make. Sounds like you've weighed the strengths of your long and short term goals. Glad you are writing again. Glad you had a wonderful teaching experience.
Wow - big changes! Good to hear of your upcoming adventures Greg, and of your love for Colombia. Safe travels and hope to hear more from you about your return to Vietnam :)
Hey there sorry ... ...I've been off this thing for quite a while since I have been living and working in colombia I really haven't had the money to travel at all ( it really is a damn struggle here with pay) thanks so much I've been ok, just finishing my contract now and actually headed back to Asia in a couple weeks ( they actually pay money there for our services lol which I didn't fully appreciate until this experience lol) yes the island was great although back then it was still in development I'm sure it's totally built up now and a lot more Russians lol. I hope to get back there while working in Vietnam again! How's everything on ur side? Where in the world are ya these days?
Hi Bob! Thanks for stopping in hope all is well with you and yours! YES OMG soooooooo excited to be back! Oaxaca has been an AWESOME starting point to heading back to South America I really don't think I could have chosen a better spot to start! How's everything with you??
Hey Frank! How is everything? How's the book coming along? I'll be in Cartagena September 6th can't wait to get back there!! I'll probably just pass my CV around to schools there in Cartagena, Barranquilla and Medellin. Hope all is well with you!
Congrats on your escape! How fabulous that you landed first in LA--very impressive those massively cheesy creations (oh, I can hardly wait, she says from funky cheese Peru!) and then Oaxaca with its excellent cuisine. My favorites there were the ladies that appeared on street corners in the evening with their big pots of steamed tamales! Brilliant to smuggle chili seeds to South America if you're going to have a farm down here. That Tica bus looks pretty luxurious--enjoy!
Hey Tara!!! How's Peru? Looks like you are loving it you have been there quite a while!! Yes I have my bag of 12 different chile seeds hopefully customs won't find them heehee! The food is spectacular and yes I have had the Tamales from the ladies on the street corner! AMAZING, but then again EVERYTHING here is amazing food-wise! Thanks for reading and sorry for the Peruvian funky cheese lol :)
Hey guys! Thanks Dave and Merry!! I really appreciate it and there will be a ton of food and site pics from Oaxaca for sure!! I am EXTREMELY excited! 35 days and counting....
40 days will go by in a blink of the eye! Thanks for the compliment! :) I'm surprised to hear that you don't like Vietnamese food - we loved the freshness of the salads and the variety in the noodle dishes. It's my second fave SE Asian cuisine after Thai food. Your upcoming trip sounds really exciting... I'm really looking forward to hearing about your thoughts on Oaxaca and Columbia. Safe travels! :)
Thanks guys! Yea hopefully it will go SUPER fast! I'll be busy with classes and trying to make as much money as possible ( to enjoy as much amazing Oaxacan food as I can! lol) as I said I'm averaging about 50-60 OT hours per month which doubles my monthly base salary so it helps tremendously and I for sure won't get paid like that in Latin America, but the trade off is well worth it in my mind! Don't thank me, it's well deserved guys I love reading your blogs! The food is just not even slightly good here compared to places I've been, but as I mention all the time I think it's a country you either love or hate. I haven't eaten Vietnamese food since March actually (I choose to cook on my own) it's just not good to me. Thanks again for the comment hope you guys are doing great back home and planning the next adventure!!!! :-)
slow moving While my ultimate destination is home in California, that will probably take a few years. For now, hoping for a six-month visa for another 6 here in Peru, then back to Bolivia for three, then circling round Peru, Ecuador and Columbia for a year or two, then up further. As usual, I clueless about the particulars, but not in a rush to return to the expensive US. Reading blogs of Asia, I must admit I'm a bit tempted to head over there after I get home. Thanks for asking and good luck with Laos!
Broken arms Hi Greg, thanks for asking. I'm fine though I'm healing from a couple of broken arms from a cow pushing me over a cliff. Still in Arequipa, thank goodness--would be a little tricky traveling like this. I've heard that Laos is much more relaxed than Vietnam, so hope your new job works out well!
OOOOOH NO...... Are u serious?? wow I'm sorry that's terrible!!!! I hope u recover quickly, but otherwise I'm glad u are enjoying Peru. :).....next destination when ur feeling better?
Philosophy We agree, if you don't like your situation change it and you are very good at that. I'm always amazed by people at work who are miserable year after year and make no effort to make a change. Senseless really. Good luck with your job search.
Hey guys!! Thanks so much again for reading and commenting! yea its been a while since I last updated, crazy busy since I'm the only foreign teacher now...7 day work weeks are killer. Thanks for the well wishes also. I just got an interview set up for tomorrow via skype for Laos, I'm only considering it bc the money is good and I can save a ton for a huge yr long trip, plus I haven't been there so we will see I guess....
About to get better! So sorry for the bad year--surely, Latin America will be more to your liking. And fabulous Oaxaca--what a great place to start! Around 8:30 at night, ladies on street corners sell delicious tamales from their big, steaming pots. Mexico is one big taste sensation! Best wishes finding a school you enjoy!
I'm a wanderer of this amazing earth discovering the bounties it holds. I've been around the world, not as many as some, but more than others and enjoying my life. Well, it's been quite a journey this past year it started going from Vietnam to LA for a week August 2015 to visit a friend to the greatest city in Mexico, Oaxaca where I got the opportunity to see Monte Albon and the AMAZING (let me say again) AMAZING food then a bus ride from Tapachula, Mexico to Panama City (3days) to stay with one of my great friends for a week, then from Carti a multi day trip through the islands of San Blas on... full info
