In 2014, we spent a week in Jamaica staying with locals but that was on the other side of the island. Although Theresa has been to Ocho Rios before, this will be George´s first visit.
After seeing so many ships in port yesterday, we are unsure of taxi availability for today, so have booked a ship tour to the nearby Dunns River Falls.
The ride to the falls was short, but our friendly bus driver pointed out all the local landmarks, and also explained how it works inside the falls. We are fascinated by the local Creole language. We like the Jamaican people.
We are so glad we bought the water shoes in Florida. They are charging $10 a pair at the falls. We paid that for both our pairs.
Our initial intention was to change into swimming clothes but to walk up the side of the falls rather than in the falls in groups as many were doing. There are some key safety concerns because it is very easy to injure yourself.
Once we had changed, we walked over to the falls and took a few photos. We decided that we probably could walk up
the actual falls, but were a bit uncomfortable to have to keep up with a certain group.
After putting the camera and towel back into the locker we embarked on our solo climb up the waterfalls. There were so many groups going up that it was easy to watch where others were going for the best routes and foot holes. But we could stop and bathe in the water whenever we wanted to. For us, this was perfect.
We surprised each other as to how easily we both managed to get to the top, and so glad that we eventually decided to do it this way.
On the way back to the bus, we saw a lady selling Blue Mountain coffee. We have a couple of friends back home that we are going to buy for. One prefers coffee beans and the other ground beans. Although it is a little more expensive here, at least now we have it. Looking around some of the shops in Ocho Rios, we are not really sure we could have got it any cheaper.
After a light lunch we headed for a quick bit of sun in Posh. With it
being a port day, it is quieter there today. This means the bar staff are even more attentive to any needs. This means more drinks and other items delivered to your side. We have developed a good friendly relationship with the three barmen.
When we got back to our room, we had a letter about the change over to the next cruise on Saturday. There is a meeting tomorrow morning at 9.45am that explains all in more detail. We had booked on the behind the scenes tour for tomorrow morning, but this is more far important. We may try for the tour on the next cruise. Customer Services were happy to refund us the cost of the tour in the circumstances.
The buffet tonight is Caribbean Night and had a good variety of spicy food.
We finished off the evening with a quick visit to the casino. We keep hoping to win big, but nothing so far. Seen plenty of others win big though.
