Roatan Island, Honduras.
Outside Temp 29 Degrees Celsius(not sure what it was with Humidity)
Water temp 29 Degrees Celsius
We woke early. Ship was really rocky last night first time I can say I felt the boat move at all. The nice thing about waking up so early is the Gorgeous Sunrise, another perk of having a balcony, sitting out in the hot weather enjoying the sunrise. As we were getting closer to Roatan the view was great looking at all the Islands and I got to see a sea Turtle just swimming along side the ship. Never would have saw him if I hadn't been out on the balcony - Money well spent.
We docked at 10 am sharp then everyone off the boat what a crowd of people. It amazes me how organized the ship is, getting people off the boat with such efficiency. 4000 passengers getting off the boat and it felt very fast- Amazing. Once we were off the ship we got a first real view of how large our ship really is.
We had pre arranged a tour with Victor Bodden Tours, we found the kiosk really easily they were well
marked. We researched excursions a lot before we left, we decided to not book through the boat mainly because we didn't see anything we liked and found the ship tours were very crowded and way more expensive.
We found Victor Bodden tours by reading Cruise Critic and trip advisor and I read a ton of reviews and testimonials - seemed a great fit for us and they did a wonderful job. If anyone is interested we did the Fun N Sun Tour which includes a city tour, beach afternoon and time at Victor's Monkey Buisness.
Coming from Newfoundland we were in no way prepared for the Hot and sticky weather of Honduras, but we loved every minute. Thank goodness the bus had AC ha ha. We did a tour of the town stopped at a grocery store for beer - what else.. it was interesting to see where the locals buy groceries and things, looks very much like home in fact.
First thoughts of Roatan - Very very poor, the banks all had armed guards they kept saying it was for just in case but I was worried that it might be a bit sketchy. Our tour
guide was amazing, very local and made us laugh and gave us tons of information about her country she was very proud of Honduras.
Some random facts about Honduras - The White tail Deer is the national animal and is protected, The Red macaw is the National Bird - beautiful
We were taken to a lookout we could see the town and also the bay where the ships were docked and of course there was some local vendors, we bought some trinkets and then we were off to the Victor Boddens Animal Sanctuary - we saw Monkeys and Parrots - The spider monkeys were my favourite I could have stayed there all day. They were cuddly and funny- we got some great pictures.
Next stop the Bananarama Beach Resort - West Bay Beach. What a beautiful white sand beach one of the 10 best in the world so says the internet. Lucky to spend a few hours there, it was like getting into bath water so warm. We rented some snorkel equipment from a beach vendor this beach is on a reef lots of fish to be seen. We had lunch at the resort, 2 slices of
wood baked pizza and beer 7 us dollars, not bad. It hit the spot. The only bad thing was the internet was so congested we couldn't get online, free internet was a big part of the upsell on this. But we were able to find a spot at the port to check in with the Family.
The best part of getting back on the boat is waiting in line, Norwegian gives you water while you are waiting and also eucalyptus smelling cool face cloths...Life Saving!
Back on the boat- we had a low key dinner at O'Sheehan's pub. Just what you expect - pub fare and fun. We spent a lot of nights there, playing pool and darts.
We finished the evening in the pool as the weather is still hot and humid, best way to end the day.
