Opening Secret Friend Presents
It was like Christmas morning! So we don't have a day like this in Canada, but it was definately crazy and fun all at the same time.
In the morning, we still had classes as normal. It was so cute though. We had a staff meeting this morning so I was late getting to unlock my door this morning. I was so curious as to why there were not students waiting outside the classroom door like they usually do. It turns out they somehow got into the classroom, locked the door, turned out the lights, and hid behind the desks. I saw them as I passed but pretended to be very surprised when I opened the door and they all jumped up and screamed. So cute.
The morning was fairly normal. We did math and a spelling test and the usual. I got some really cute pieces of writing turned in by my students for extra bonus marks. The question they were to answer was "What do you want to be when you grow up and why?" I had 4 students complete the task. Here are my favourite parts from each;
- "My Dad said he will left the restaurant to my brothers
Confetti Time!
The classroom was a mess afterwards though! and I so if Americans like Miss Sarah not understand Spanish so that what I'm in the school learnin inglish but I don't want to learn bad words."
- "I will be a teacher of inglesh and sosial estudias. I want to be that because I see that they are very nice persons and goods teacher. I want to be a good teacher. like you miss Sarah."
- "I will be something rich and be a dentist of child to inyect the mouth childs and will give they all my beautiful stikers."
- "When I grow up I want to be a doctor of kids because I love little kids. I want to help them when there are sick. And I will not be bad with them so they will not be bad with me. I will love them like if them were my son. I will give them something if the have a good health. I'll not give a bad taste medicines. I will play with them and give food to very very poor people. I want to grow up very early so I can do all that I said. My mom and brother said to
me that I will change of opinion when I grow up but I know that I wouldn't."
I had to include the WHOLE thing of the last one. It was my favourite and made me cry. So cute.
So Child's Day... it's CRAZY! The parents get all into it. Chris and I were really lucky actually because our parents committee did an AMAZING job today and Chris and I had to do nothing. They came in yesterday to decorate the classroom with balloons and such. Then during the last two periods today we had a party. Each kid had a secret friend (this Chris and I actually did prepare beforehand where each child drew a name). We then started with our secret friend gifts. All the kids exchanged the gifts and then opened them. I couldn't believe the things they were getting. Some got shirts and pajamas and board games... wow. It was like Christmas. It was awesome.
We then had the parents serving us pizza, pop, and cake. Next it was time for the pinata which was great fun. The kids loved it. Chris then had a good go at it and let me finish it
More Confetti!
My students just LOVE having their pictures taken! off. I was jabbing it at the end so that all the candy would fall out. You should have seen the kids scramble for the candy. You would have thought they had never been fed.
We then went back to the classroom where we had ice cream cones and threw confetti around the room. It was a blast. The kids had such a great time and I joined right in with the silliness. What a cool day.
One of my student's mothers approached me with her daughter translating, and asked if I would tutor her daughter in French. They don't start French here until grade 6, so I guess she's just getting a head start on it. That means it'll be the basics which I can totally do. I'm actually quite excited about it. I'll be doing it tuesday and thursday after my lessons with Rey. Those are gonna be LONG days but I figure it'll be worth it to have the extra money for travelling. It'll be fun for me to have some review of French as well. It's been awhile. I hope I can find some good resources online. Julie (from France, who teaches French) also
Running Then Sliding on the Floor
Apparently running into each other, tripping and falling is fun, so they continued to do it. said she'd help me if I need it.
After school Jenna and I had practice with the cheerleaders. They were better than yesterday so that was good. We have a long way to go but have practice with them tomorrow morning at 9am (CRAP!) and then again Sunday as well. Monday they march with the band to practice and then the parade is tuesday. Then I'm off to Utila for my Diving Certification. I'm pumped.
Well, I'm now off to get ready for a teacher party. I think it's to say goodbye to Melissa; the old co-ordinator who actually was the one who hired me and did all the e-mail correspondence. She's leaving for Spain next week to do her Masters. Should be fun. I can't stay out late though as we have practice tomorrow morning nice and early. Going to be a pretty busy weekend. Better than boring I suppose.

CHILD'S DAY
Priceless. Too cute. Careful with the scuba. Your mother and I are worried sick. Your uncle Wayne, on the other hand, used to scuba dive for the Niagara Falls Fire Department. Just keep your wits about you and don't panic. And don't take risks. Godspeed, Sarah. All my love, as always, DAD XXX OOO
