Semuc Champey
One of Many of these fresh water pools at Semuc Champey.Paradise on earth Hola!!
We eventually got to Antigua after a long long day of travelling from Lake Atitlan, San pedro and stayed in the
Black Cats Hostel ...best hostel we have been to so far, atmosphere, people and food were great! It´s a very colonial town just like
San Christobal but not as nice, Met up with Mor and Gadi the 2 Israli guys on our first night, went to lots of little coffe shops, markets and bars and even went salsa dancing in Ricks to the
Buena Vista Social CLub....not quiet
salsa but we did our own thing anyway! went out for one of the English girls birthdays to a club there... the vodka&cokes were 2 Quetzals..20 cent!!!
Climbed
Volcano Pacaya, its a live volcano, Karen&I, Mor, Mike & Gadi climbed to the top at night with flash lights...when I say we climbed it I mean Gadi dragged me up to the top (Thanks Gadi!)...its just a small small reminder of what I have ahead of me in Peru for the Inca Trail...bleeuurrghhh!! It was no joke but worth it when we reached the top...in the pictures you can see the glow from behind us.
Spent 4 nights in Antigua and we
Paradise
Semuc Champey travelled onwards with Mike and Mor to
Semuc Champey....another long journey but well worth it, arrived in Coban and took a bus connection straight away to El Retiro lodge.........an incredible place with lots of cabannas (wooden huts on stilts) surrounded by trees and is set by a relentlessly flowing river, there was a super chilled out restaurant with hammocks and swings for bar stools.... you didnt even need to leave, it was so friendly, 4 American college guys arrived and really got the place moving..skinny dipping (them not me) and walking in naked to order a beer in the restaurant and calmly walking back out with a beer, crazy guys.... and we hired huge inflated tubes and would float down the river, propelled by the current. it was a mixture of calm idle sailing then extreme paddling to avoid low hanging tree branches and then after 40 minutes or so hopping off where the hostel was...crazy!
Day 2 at Languin we took a chicken bus to Semuc Champey....The pictures should say it all
PARADISE on EARTH.......like a huge table of Champagne glasses with bubbles...just sitting under a warm waterfall and swimming there for a few hrs. I didnt want
to leave..on the way back on the chicken bus it was time for a reality check......sitting next to a Guatemalian guy with a machetti!! lol!
Had a really good night in El Retiro that night, dancing untill they wouldnt serve us any more, unfortunatley we had to move on after 4 days - four go to Flores Northern Guatemala.
