Hello Montezuma, a small surfing beach town which isn´t quite on the touristy map just yet, well not as much as Tamarindo is anyway but there are definitely a few tourists in town as you can tell when the bus gets into town and all the backpackers rush around trying to find cheap accommodation when there are only a few to choose from in the first place. After walking around a while ourselves with our heavy backpacks we settled on the hostel with no name, apparently that is what it is called... A few other people were in the hostel as well so we enjoyed a few card games and drinks instead of paying the bar prices... i have also just read Suzanne's email from this week so i will let you read it for yourselves...
¨Feeling like we need to get back to beach life we headed back to the Pacific Coast and Montezuma was our destination. Although it took is10 hours to get there, it was worth taking the local way of getting there. You see, being that Costa Rica knows that most travellers are only here for 2 weeks or less, they set up a mini bus
service that can take you from one popular stop to the next for an exuberant amount of money, but half the time. They hadn´t counted on a frugal Steve and Suzanne who says no... I will pay $3.80 for a 10 hour journey not $45 for 4 hours, and I will not miss the air conditioning and convienence of your form of transportation. I will gladly sit in a puddle of my own sweat as my ass turns a lovely shade of blue and green from all the bumps and bruises. Arriving in Montezuma felt like we had stepped back in the 60´s.Though still touristy, it was still holding on to the hippie vibe that it once was and it was charming. We met some great people (even including a guy from Toronto who worked with my wonderful sister and has my good friend Greig as his TFC contact) ah what a small world. Our days were filled with exploring beautiful waterfalls and jumping off them and dirt biking from one beach to the next. From monkeys jumping above our heads to butterflies swarming around our heads, I was finally in the Costa Rica I had envisioned. We then were
off to Manual Antonio Park to see if we could spot some sloths. My dream had come true as our guide, Miguel had grabbed me and my camera and took what will prove to be my favourite picture... a 2 toed sloth. Just sitting in a tree smiling down on us I felt warm all over. Oh no, that warmth was the sting from the jelly fish retracting in my foot again from the previous day. That´s right...I got stung by a jelly fish, and after for going Steve´s lovely offer of a golden shower, he ran to the Pharmacist and drew a lovely diagram ofa swimmer and a jelly fish and reenacted my sting in perfect form. I tell you Steve will forever be my partner at sheardes from here on out.´
One thing Suzanne did miss out were the nice bats in our shower which i have to say did surorise me just a little...
So next stop for us is Dominical a bit further down the coast where we will maybe try surfing again and horse ride to waterfalls...
