Warm welcome to Nicoya peninsula, Costa Rica
"Meleg" fogadtatas a Nicoya-felszigeten, Costa Rica The first 'must see' area of Costa Rica for us was the Nicoya Peninsula in the north west. The only way to see this area is by renting a car, so we spoilt ourselves (and blew our budget) and got ourselves a nice little Toyota Yaris. We were originally thinking that a 4by4 would be needed, but the nice guy at the rent-a-car agency explained us there was absolutely no need.. mmmm.
Haaaat.... The Nicoya Peninsula is a beautiful, remote region with great nature and unspoilt beaches with almost no people (with the exception of a few well developed places where Americans seem to outnumber Costa Ricans). We spent three days cruising around in our car in search of empty beaches, and finding a good number of them too! The only problem was this was 4by4 country (or tank country in some places) with roads turning into rivers and trees blocking roads.
A Nicoya-felsziget nehany (amerikai) turista kozpontot leszamitva, elegge csendes. Tobbszor bukkantunk olyan tengerparti szakaszokra, ahol rajtunk kivul a madar se jart.
After handing over our dirty beast of a car, we set off for Monteverde cloud forest. It was another nice place to visit, noticeably wetter and greener and mistier than your average forest!
Megerte. A 'jeep-boat-jeep´tour later we arrived to Arenal volcano, famous for being active for xx years. Sadly we bought the clouds with us from the cloud forest and couldn't even see the volcano! So rather than admire the misty views we headed off to some huge outdoor thermal baths at the base of the volcano to test our temperature resistance (the hottest
bath was a crazy 67 degC!). And luckily the cloud cleared (probably evaporated thanks to our hot baths!) and we could see the volcano from our bath! To make the most of the improved weather we ventured closer to the volcano to see it explode and lava coming down the side. The view was great, but the sound of an exploding volcano is really, wow..
Termeszetesen nem pihenhettunk idohiany miatt, igy masnap mar rohantunk is tovabb. Mivel egy hegyomlas elvagta a busz utjat, igy a jeep-hajo-jeep megoldast kellett valasztanunk. Egesz uton esett, es olyan kod boritott mindent, hogy mikor megerkeztunk azt sem tudtuk melyik iranyba keressuk a vulkant. Szerencsere par ora mulva kiderult, es "poffentett" egyet a vulkan a tiszteletunkre. A delutan tovabbi reszet egy hatalmas kulsoteri termal furdoben toltottuk (a legforrobb medence hofoka 67 C fok volt?!), es fotoztuk a vulkant. Vegul, hogy maximalisan profitaljunk a derult egbol elmentunk megint lavat nezni. Ezt most nem lehetett olyan kozelrol, viszont cserebe hallhattuk es lathattuk, ahogy a lava iszony sebesseggel rohan lefele a hegyoldalon. Kulonleges volt. Next stop was the capital (but we didn't see much as it was raining, and it seems there wasn't much to see anyway),
No competition for the waves
Ezert a szorfosok paradicsoma on route to the Pacura river for a two day white water rafting tour. We made a bit of a mistake booking this tour.. We wanted a two day tour thinking we would see more of the river, but as it turned out a one day tour covered exactly the same river! The only difference being we were to spend the night in the jungle by the river. Well, when we found this out we felt pretty disappointed, but when we arrived to our lodgings for the night we changed our mind! We were staying at a luxury hotel in the middle of no-where with amazing jungle all around! Oh, and the food was great..
The
Tranquil Pacific coast
Csendes Csendes-ocean part white water rafting was a great experience too. It was rated 5th in the world for commercial white water rafting and we had an excellent guide which was the icing on the cake.
Sadly the two days of luxury had to end and we went back to the capital and straight into a night bus on route to Panama.
Sajna a 2 nap gyorsan veget ert es mehettunk vissza a fovarosba, ahonnan egy tizensok oras buszut vart rank Panama Citybe. Panama seems to have some really nice places to visit, but sadly we only had one day before our flight to Ecuador. Of course that meant we had to see the canal.. So the canal was the only thing we really saw, but it was definitely worth seeing. Its a real engineering feat, and to watch these huge cargo ships pass through was really nice.
Panamara osszesen 1 napunk maradt, amit termeszetesen a csatorna meglatogatasara forditottunk nemi kitero utan. Ugynis sikerult a berelt autonkkal betevednunk egy eleg lepusztult kornyeken egy egyiranyu utcaba rossz iranybol. A zsaruk persze mogottunk.
Egesz nap elnezegettem a hatalmas hajokat.
In summary, we loved the amazing nature of Costa Rica - such beautiful forests, beaches, volcano’s and so on with a huge variety of wildlife. Sadly its quite developed by the Americans which makes it quite an expensive country to travel around (by comparison of its neighbours). Panama we can’t really make comments on, but we liked what we saw, and we heard plenty of great reviews on some unspoilt islands. Next time..
