Hola and Welcome! As you can see from the title, this episode will take us from the high country of an altitude of 1639 meters back to sea level. Quick math...39 inches to the meter... X 1639 is umm 5327 feet. However, before getting into the meat of our story this time, I want to share with you information about getting around Costa Rica. Most of you are now thinking that he is going to talk about transportation, however I want to share with you stories about our GPS. We have a GPS in the states. It is a great invention and we love it! She sits in the cab of our truck happily pointing out the best direction to go and gives us plenty of notice and also in a sweet voice corrects our mistakes ... read more

Well we certainly had a different type of Christmas this year, quite surreal. Was really quiet here though and you would hardly have known it was Christmas really. Like Europeans the Costa Ricans have their big night on Christmas Eve with pressie opening at midnight so we decided to go our for dinner and had an American style turkey feast, had to be done! Christmas day itself as with all others here was hot so we cooled off with an early morning surf and a long walk along Jaco beach. We had bought up half the supermarket the day before and had a bbq for our lunch breaking the beer o'clock rule with a few cheeky Imperials. Nicola and Mitch arrived on Monday 28th, unfortunately a day late due to missing their connection like us in ... read more

Greetings fellow bloggers and wanna- bees. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you! I hope that as you read this blog today, you are enjoying family and friends over a warm fire with eggnog and turkey, ham or your favorite (as in our case, Cabio). Yep, you guessed it.....horse. Ok, when in Rome do as the Romans do. More on Cabio in a bit. Laura and I spent our first Christmas in the tropics. Let see, how much can be said for having Christmas in a different country... Lots. it seems as though we have been down this road before. A few years ago we were in Puerto Rico for Christmas. It was a total drag & we could not wait to get home to family and have what was considered a normal ... read more

Greetings to all of you old bloggers and to all of you new enlistees. Many of you have asked about the blog and why you haven't heard from us for so long. Well to tell you the truth I though that since we were both back in the states we would see or talk to most of you at some time durring the summer and Fall months. As it turned out, that was the case for most of you. It is now November 21 and Laura and I have returned to Costa Rica for the next 6 months. The 5th wheel is in storage, winterized and waiting for us to return in the Spring. So herein sunny, dry and warm Costa Rica. We have been enduring the Fall in Washington State and can take no more. ... read more

Hola Everyone Having a really relaxed time and enjoying my last few hours in my thirties! Weather has been great although surf been quiet for a few days, picked up again earlier so caught a few. Marlon, a guy who works at our hotel took us out to a local drinking haunt to play pool - was a top night and really interesting to compare life in the Uk to his. Aside from the obvious our countries are pretty similar - same social issues such as immirgration, governments taking too much tax etc! Marlon has also been helping me practice my Spanish as well as the maids every morning who have to put up with my attempts at conversation too! Definitely in the zone now and enjoying time in a place where deadlines just don't exist ... read more

The Hermosa beach in Jaco is the ideal place to relax and do nothing. Actually, this would be misinformation for the avid surfers for Hermosa is the surfers paradise. But since I don't surf at all I liked it because it was quiet, devoid of much commercial activity and the hotel we were in was right on the beach. We did go out on a sky walk tour near the Carara Biological Reserve but we were unlucky as we didn't get to see any toucan or macaw. We saw some other birds and a lot of green and black poison dart frogs. We spent our evenings mostly walking up and down the beach, enjoying the wonderful view of the sunset and taking pictures. The two days at the beach provided us with the much needed rest ... read more

... read more

Gosh, where does the time go? Seems like we just arrived. Well this Central American country insists that you leave every 90 days, until you have established residency. We will be working on that but probably not for another year or until you know who starts receiving his Social Security. Laura is one step ahead of me, but we need to show a combined income and we are not wanting to ship our retirement down here just yet. So that means we leave the country every 90 days. This is a little sticky at times, only becasuse Gringos think it means 3 months. The costa Rican government , on the other hand looks for the ones waiting for the 91, or 92nd day. Those are the ones that do not get to come back. Not wanting ... read more

Welcome blog readers. Glad to see that you are all still hanging in there. We are finally getting the hang of a Third World Country. Still have no idea how to get around San Jose, but that will come over time. ( may be in the next 10 years) As long as I can find my way to and from the airport we will be in good shape. All of our stuff finally arived. That is the good thing. Once it made it into the country it was shipped to San Jose to go through Ccoustoms. Nothing like we think of in the states. I was there to watch the unloading. No problem. Everything was palatized and stored. Just happened to be over Easter weekend. So stuff was secured for 6 days. much to our supprise, ... read more
