Hey all,
I am doing one blog entry for both yesterday and today. We haven't done a whole lot and there aren't a lot of pictures so it would be easier to condense it.
Yesterday we woke up around 7:30am to the sound of rain pounding on the roof. Cindy and George were getting ready to leave. Their taxi was supposed to get here at 8am. As they were finishing up last minute things, Myles and i got up to see them off. Before we knew it the taxi had arrived and we were waving them out the door. I cant believe it has been raining the past two pays. So inconvenient for travel, but since it is the rain forest i guess that's how it goes. It was so nice having them here for the week, but it is also nice to have the last couple of days of our honeymoon alone. After they left Myles went back to sleep and i stayed up reading in the hammock. When i got hungry i heated up some empanadas that the parents had left for us. I finally started to bug Myles around 11am, and by 1pm i was able
to convince him to go into town for lunch. The rain had finally let up and i was starving.
We walked to town and decided to go to Sunrise. I have written about it before, its a small hostel that serves food in their second story patio. The food is good and cheap, and since we are trying to save a little money to take home, it was the perfect fit. I got chicken with sausage, salad, and fries. Myles got fried chicken with salad and fries. Both were good, but a little overdone and dry. But, its cheap and that's what you get for cheap. After lunch i really wanted chocolate, we had tried some the night before from the owner of MoJos. They came from a little sandwich place/ bar called Oshies. So, i dragged Myles there for some peanut butter cups. They are amazing. After a sweet dessert we got some eggs and bacon at the store for dinner. Then i forced Myles to go into some stores. We have to figure out what souvenirs to bring people. After that we caught a taxi home.
At home we started to prepare dinner. I chopped a
whole bunch of veggies and cooked them with some potatoes. When i was almost finished Myles started cooking the bacon and eggs. We also heated up some bread to make breakfast sandwiches. Dinner was really good. The potatoes were not quite done, but we couldn't wait so we chowed down anyways. After that we just sat in the hammocks and read until it was time to take a shower and go to bed.
Today I got up around 8am and went out on the porch to finish up some books. Once i could stand it no longer (like 11:30) I went to bug Myles to get up. It is one of our last days, but its still pouring rain, so its hard to do stuff. He got up and we grabbed our umbrellas and headed to this place down the street that we always say we are going to go to. When we walk by and it smells amazing. Its called Boi Boi's BBQ. We hoped they were open since it was pouring. We walked up and were greeted by the owner Boi Boi. She asked us what we wanted, so we got mashed potatoes, cole slaw, chicken breasts,
and some water and beer. Since this BBQ was run out of her house (that's the restaurant, her house) we assumed it would be rather cheap. 24 dollars later we were headed home. I was kind of upset and i wonder if she charged us more because we are tourists. I have heard of places doing that but i hadn't experienced it until today. I'm not sure that was the case, but that was one of the most expensive meals we have eaten here. It just seemed a little fishy. Any way on our trek home we met up with a dog that we see quit often. He always rolls is fowl smelling stuff, so we nicknamed him stinky. Stinky followed us all the way home, hoping for scraps.
Once we got back to the cabina we broke into the food. $24 is a lot for food out here. That's like a HIGH end restaurant, but this food was really good. I still wouldn't say it was worth that much money, but it was pretty amazing. The potatoes were great, and the chicken was sooo tender. I don't like cole slaw, but the way they make it here is
so different from the states. Its actually good. Lol. I don't normally drink beer either but i wanted to say i tried at least one Costa Rican beer while i was in this country. When we were both full we gave any left overs to stinky. Hes a little skinny and i wanted to give him something. After he ate he ran around for a while in the yard and then headed off to places unknown. We were both ready to relax at that point so we jumped into the hammocks to read. Once stinky left a cat that has been hanging out with us came by. Shes really skittish so you have to move really slowly around her or she runs away. She loves to hangout with Myles in the hammock while he reads.
The kitchen was getting a little out of hand after we cooked last night, so i started bugging Myles to help me clean it. He washed the dishes while i swept the house and wiped stuff down. As we finished cleaning some people showed up at our front gate. We did not recognise them so we went to inverstigate. It turns out they are
the next people who will be staying here. They check in on Wednesday. They seemed really interested so we invited them into checkout the place. they looked around a little and told us that they were getting married soon and wanted to have the ceremoney on the beach out here. So they were scouting places to stay durring all the crazyness. We told them congrats as they left.
We were thinking after that that we might head into town. Ricky our guide was supposed to come over tonight to show us how to cook with coconut milk for dinner, but it got to be about 6:15 and he still wasn't here so we decided to go out. Its been raining all day and i don't think he has a car, so its no big deal. We headed down to Banana Azul to ask them to call us a taxi since we don't have a phone. The taxi picked us up and we headed into town. Since we only have 2 more nights where we can eat dinner here we decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants El Dorado. Myles got a pizza again and i got chicken
cosados. Both we yummy (of course) and very filling. After dinner we decided to peruse some shops looking for things to take home. Then we grabbed a taxi to come home. When we got here the cat was still here hanging out. Now she is sitting in Myles' lap while i write this. Shes gonna be sad when we leave.
