Hey there,
So we had a lot of plans today that kinda got shot down because of the rain. We woke up around 5:30am to Myles blaring alarm clock on his phone. We weren't sure that we would get up that early without help so we set it last night. Fishing is early business. The boys (Myles and George) had a fishing trip set today and they had to meet their captain on the other side of town at 7am so we got up early to prepare for their departure. Cindy and i had a kind of girly day. We planned on going to the sloth sanctuary, then to a local chocolate farmer, then to a pretty waterfall. But, we were not getting picked up till 10am so we were only up to see the men off. After a bit of fussing they headed into the rain, ponchos and all, to find their captain. Cindy and i gladly went back to bed.
After being up though i could not go back to sleep, so i stayed up reading. Periodically i would look at the clock and wonder if the boys had left yet. Were they safe? It was raining
pretty bad when they left. Then, low and behold, at around 8:15 they came wandering back to the house. The captain told them if they wanted to go they could come back later, or tomorrow morning. Right then it was too rainy, so they decided to try again tomorrow. They did not come back for a little bit because they had decided to get some breakfast. They tried a new place called peace and Bread. They both got croissant sandwiches, which they reported to be a good quick breakfast. When they got back Cindy and i decided we would postpone our little trip as well, so we could stay in and relax too. So, Myles and i headed to Banana Azul to talk to the receptionist there. Of course, because they are amazing, the girl said it would be no problem to change our itinerary. We headed back and George offered to make me some eggs and heat up some left over red beans and rice from yesterday. I happily ate it with some fresh tortillas.
After breakfast Myles was really tired, and i could do with some sleep as well, so we both decided to take a nap.
I woke up for the first time around 11am to Hernan talking to Cindy and George. I woke up the second time around 12 because Cindy and George wanted to know if we wanted to come with them into town to eat some lunch. I really wanted to but Myles was still asleep and sore from yesterday, so we decided to pass. Myles started to get up and we both read for a bit longer. After a while we were both getting hungry so we headed to the kitchen to see what we could find. We had a lunch of beef jerky and chocolate bread. At around 3pm i started to get a little worried about the parents because they had been gone for along time and we had thought they were only going into town for a little lunch, but finally about 30 minutes later they showed up. They bought some empenadas for our lunch today, and for the boys fishing adventure tomorrow. We happily scarfed those down and decided to read some more. A little later our guide from a couple of days ago, Ricky, showed up and hung out for a little bit. Its so neat being
around him because you can ask him any question about a plant or animal from the area and he will know the answer right away. He also brought us some plantains that George is going to attempt to cook sometime in the next few days. I am stoked to try them.
After Ricky left we decided to head down to the beach to take a little walk to a river that he had mentioned. It meets the sea about a half mile from our cabina. We had not headed up to that end of the beach before and we had been cooped up all day so Myles and i were stoked to get out. At the beach we got to see our first ever sunset here. Normally we try to avoid the beach as it is getting late because there are no lights, but it wasn't quite dark yet and we wanted some adventure. After a very nice stroll we found the creek. The locals have been telling us that it has been very dry here lately, and you could see that with how low the creek was. Ricky told us that sometimes manatees hangout at the entrance of
the creek from the ocean. But, the condition that it was in presently the two bodies of water did not meet. Still, it was neat to see it and to get to look around that part of the beach. Myles decided that he wanted to take a swim even though it was getting late. I told him i would go with him as long as we didn't go out too far. The waves were starting to get big and i didn't want to have to be rescued. We both jumped in and relaxed in the warm water. I love it here. After our dip, we all headed back to the house to change.
Once we had washed all the sand off and put on dry cloths we headed to Banana Azul to eat some dinner. Every night there they have a choice of dinners, one vegetarian, one with meat. Tonight's choices were a eggplant casserole, or chicken curry. Cindy got the casserole, and Myles and i got the chicken curry. George was still full from lunch so he did not eat. Everything was good. I had never had curry before. Its not something i would choose to order normally,
but i liked trying it. I actually liked Cindy's eggplant casserole better though. After dinner we each had another drink and walked home. Now we are all sitting here reading again, or doing things on the computer. Hope you all enjoy the pictures. Love you all.
