Hello everybody.
So, today was nice. We took it easy again. Just kinda hangin out and whatnot. I woke up around 7:45am to the bright sun peaking through our shutters (yes, there are shutters to keep all the bugs and craziness out.) Anyways, this has been the first day it was really sunny for a substantial amount of time. I sat on the porch for about an hour and read my book (i have already finished one, and so has Myles, i haven't seen him read this much in like, forever), and watched all the little geckos run around. There are so many of them here its crazy. Evey time i turn around i see another one. I decided that after doing nothing on the porch for awhile it was time to get going so i woke Myles up and told him i was going to the beach to lay out. It's only right across the way, but Myles worries so he told me that if i waited for him he would get up and come too.
At about 9:30 we left for some fun in the sun. The beach here is so nice because there is hardly anyone
around and the water is about 70 degrees. But, the sand is so dark that it retains a lot of heat during the day and you can't really go bare foot or you will burn yourself. We got to the beach by our usual path wich takes you through a small patch of rain forest. The path is always lined with tree cutter ants that are really neat to watch and hard not to step on. After arriving at the beach we set our stuff down and decided to lay in the sand a while. With the sand being so dark, this was really hard to do for a lengthy amount of time, so we decided to take a dip in the water. It felt so refreshing to be able to be completely submerged that i didn't really want to get out. While walking around in the water i noticed some funny feeling shapes underneath my feet so i decided to see what it was. It turns out the ocean floor on that part of the beach is totally covered in sand dollars. I mean like hundreds of them. Besides that we did not see any wildlife at the beach
today. After swimming we tried to lay back down on the sand, but with how hot it was we were both to uncomfortable, so we headed back up to the house. After washing off in the outside shower, he decided to go to a hotel in our part of town called Banana Azual to rent bikes. This was a little pricier then i had anticipated, so we ended up renting them for just one day to try it out. The bikes were both blue with pink flowers and white writing on them. I told Myles he looked really manly on his. lol.
Anyways, the ride into town after that was very bumpy and hard. My seat wouldn't stay up so i was really low to the ground and had to push really hard with my legs. Myles said he had fun, but i was not into it. I would rather walk, thank you very much. Our destination was this place we had heard a lot about. Its called Rockin J's and it a hostel/bar/restaurant that is situated on the beach called Playa Cocles which is right after town. The beach there is very nice and Rockin Jays was
really cool. The people that stay there are encouraged to decorate with any means possible and because of the influences from all over the world, it is amazing. There are paintings and tile murals all over the walls and floors. We have heard that the party scene there is really cool. The people working there were really nice and the food on the menu looked good. We didn't get a chance to eat because we had food waiting at home, but it is for sure in our plans to visit again. After we left Rockin J's we visited a store right across the street and bought some fresh pineapple, garlic, tyme, and vodka. Lol. We were in a hurry to get home, but had planned on maybe going back later tonight for some live reggae music.
Slowly, we headed home with all our groceries in our baskets on the bikes and in my backpack. Its very interesting not having a car. I miss it and i like it all at the same time. When we got back we read on the porch some more (are you seeing a theme here? I mean gosh.) and made some drinks with vodka,
citrus juice, and fresh sliced pineapple. They were delicious and refreshing after the long bike ride. Not soon after, it started to get dark, so we decided to take one last trek to the beach before it stated raining (we had read online when we first got back from Rockin J's that a lightning and thunder storm was headed our way). As soon as we got to the beach it started to sprinkle, but we were having such a good time that we didn't mind much. We continued talking and sitting on a log for a while watching the waves, but then it started to pour, so we headed home to cook dinner. We decided because of all the rain it might not be a good idea to ride all the way back to Rockin J's again, so we stayed in.
I made Spaghetti. It wasn't the best i have ever made, but it wasn't bad. The sausage that they have here is way different from the kind we have at home and that added an interesting flavor to the sauce. I also heated up some fresh baked bread that we had bought yesterday, and i have to say
that i think that was my favorite part of the meal. Today was the first day that i have felt at all home sick. As we were eating our spaghetti i realized that we hadn't added anything to make it spicy, and all of a sudden, i wished for my own kitchen with all of my spices and wonderful utensils. I'm sure after the first week or so i'll get over this, and maybe once we meet some new people, but right now i miss all you guys and i miss Oxnard. Sorry about that tangent, but i thought you all might want to know. After dinner was finished, Myles did the dishes and we had another drink. It's still raining and doesn't really show any signs of letting up tonight. Later there is supposed to be thunder and lightning, which im sure will be really neat to see. Alrighty well, i think we are going to watch a movie on the front porch and try to get tired. Have a good night y'all and ill talk to you tomorrow.
P.S. Happy birthday to my peach, Nikki.
