In the afternoon we dove The Rhone known as the best wreck in the Caribbean. The wreck is a steamer located at the NW Point of Salt Island. The Rhone was declared the first Marine National Park in the Virgin Islands. It was a short dive but I saw a few yellow head jaw fish and smaller colorful fish but very shy. I also found patches of Sergeant Mayor eggs and just took a few close ups to the eggs but the current pickup as we got deeper and it was surge in the shallows. I wish I could take a photo with the fish fanning its eggs maybe if I find them in a better spot. I saw tons of beautiful purple tunicates that couldn't resist. My new project is to try to get black ... read more

After a long flight to Miami and then on to puerto Rico, we left San juan a plane the size of my mini van. I got to ride up front. The views were spectacular and we were able to plan our saito from the virgins Islands up to puerto Rico. Our luggage did not make it so we are sailing down to the westend marina to pick it up from customs this morning. It takes with a pleasant 4 hr sail or a treacherous 2 hour drive. The new boat is awesome. Wehave the best night sleep in years and were woken up by what seemed like 1000 cockerels crowing. Afater we rename the boat with our new decals we are off to get the luggage. Luckily our taxi driver yesterdaystopped at a store so webought ... read more

We left St. Thomas early in the am and headed towards Peter Island in the BVI. We cleared customs in West End Tortola. We logged 47nm in 3hrs miles and we burned like 143 gal of fuel. The crossing was spectacular. Crystal clear turquoise waters and green islands all around. There are lots of sailboats in the Caribbean atmosphere, which makes me miss my old life style living on a sailboat. Wi-Fi Internet is great so I might start uploading some photos to the blog.... read more

... read more

We arrived early morning after an overnight passage. At 85 miles, it's just longer than a full day's sail so we thought we'd sail through the night instead. At 11pm, we had to reef heavily after going to fast and needing to slow down. With four boats doing the same we were comparing notes on how much more uncomfortable it felt taking the sail area down and wallowing more in the sea state. Still, we all made it across and had a restful day of catching up on rest. The customs was a thoroughly unpleasant experience here in Virgin Gorda. But after clearing in we set about exploring the island and making plans for exploring the Virgin Islands. It is excellent sailing here, if busy with huge fleets of charter boats based here. We went snorkelling ... read more

Unlike many tours and shore excursions I have done before, this particular one at "Dolphin Discovery Tortola" was even more remarkable than I expected. Today the ship docked at the port of the British Virgin Island Tortola. The island is surrounded with the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. This time on adventure with Ana and Robert. We get off the ship right before noon and we had only few hours time since some of us need to get back to work :) We catch a van and it was approximately 10 minutes to get to Dolphin Discovery Site. It was my first time with the dolphins and also my dream for many years. When we reached the place we choose the swim dolphin adventure program which includes a kiss, a hug, a handshake and ... read more

Better had sort this final bit out as much as I can – likely only with general thoughts about it at this point cos it ended almost a week ago! Maybe some general thoughts of cruising. The idea of doing it has previously not appealed at all – and not too sure, even with this programme, that I would be dying to do it again – until I see the next list of artists on the boat of course. Previously John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett have been on the boat so a real hot bill like that might draw me again. Its an expensive gig to get to after all, despite all the attractions of being able to see someone like Richard Thompson on this occasion three times, one of them with Loudon Wainwright which was ... read more

British Virgin Island Richard Branson owns an island here. We see it in the distance. I had been warned that after a few days cruising one island would begin to look like another. So far this has not been true. Each one had their own individual characteristics. Perhaps by the time we arrive at Tortola coupled with the speed at which we move from island to island and limited amount of time on each it is inevitable that one begins to blend into another. This is a shame because they all have their own attractions and individuality depending on who colonized them. We decide to do our own thing and set off to explore Tortola on foot. For the first time we begin to feel like travellers instead of tourists and it is a welcome relief. ... read more
